This a deal I read on Engadget that is based of the Direct2Dell blog.

This is like one of those deals when you buy a new gas guzzler Dodge, you get a tiny Neon free deal ! Except, both things sold here are actually much more desirable than Dodge !

I just went to Dell.com to ask about deal and they there is not one.
Its got a 1.6ghz Atom N270 processor, just like every other netbook. 512 or 1gb or ram, 4/8/16gb SSD drive, 802.11g, and either no webcam / 0.3mp cam / 1.3mp cam. Comes wither either a Dell-customized Ubuntu 8.04 build, or XP.
$349 for Ubuntu/512/4gb/no camera $399 for Ubuntu/512/8gb/0.3 webcam $449 for XPHome/1gb/8gb/1.3 webcam
Each base model can be tweaked and customized, which is normal for Dell but unusual for a netbook.

So which of those models is the $99 Mini 9 model that comes with the purchase of a laptop? I'm assuming, to be safe, that it's the $349 model...?

OK, ill help the new kid... the deal does not start until tomorrow. Everyone is yelling at you because thats pretty clearly written in both the title and the actual post, and if you had simply read before you asked people for help you would have realized. People here are generally pretty helpful, but yes, there are such things as stupid questions, and some people tend to be annoyed by them.
Let me say it again: --> There is no deal yet because it does not start until tomorrow at 6 AM. <--

I don't really care for this Netbook but I'm passing the deal on just in case someone is already going to buy one of these 3 laptop series.
This deal could mean two laptops for $748. Studio 15 ...............$649 Dell Mini 9..............$ 99
Total....................$748
Don't forget the timeline.
Could you please give us more detail about $649 for Studio 15? What is the configuration? Any coupon applied? Thanks.

I can't find any info specifying, but that sounds like the likely bet.
<blatant speculation> If i was a betting man (which i am, unfortunately), i'd guess that this will show up under the "Add my Hot Deals" tab of the configuration pages for the respective laptops as a throw-in, like they often do with digital cameras and printers (the price range is about the same when you think about it). That would mean ZERO customization or configuration control over the Mini, unless they offer multiple throw-in models (maybe $99 for the base, or $199 for the XP? If so, you might be able to buy both and flip one on eBay). </blatant speculation>

forestunt123 said: probably they'll jack up the price of Dell studio 15 m1530 and m1330 by that time to compensate the differece. my guess is also the same. they'll likely sell the regular laptop at msrp and let you have the mini 9 for cheap allowing them to break even somehow.
I wish they would post the spec for screen brightness. Anyone know how bright this LED screen is? Does anyone else use a LED screen? I need something sunlight readable. Thx
I can't imagine trying to make do with anything less than 20GB even on a netbook.

I'm in the market for a new netbook and I am really considering this. The price seems right.

Is this really a deal? The Studio 15 / XPS models are all quite overpriced compared to the Vostro line of notebooks.
Example of the cheapest model w/ core 2 duo for each:
Vostro 1510: $639 T5670 (1.8ghz) 2gb RAM 250gb hd etc...
Studio 15: $799 T5750 (2.0ghz) ... (no 1.8ghz option) 2gb ram 250gb HD
So we're already about $160 ahead of the cost of a vostro, plus the $99 for the mini 9, pricing the mini-9 at roughly $260 (roughly $90 short of the retail price). I guess it's a decent deal, but nothing incredible, especially considering the fact that you can regularly find the vostro laptops even cheaper than $639.
So the real question is, can we find a Vostro for around $550? If so, this isn't a deal at all.

Anyone think they can make $$ off selling both of these tops?
