All deals are apparently dead now.

Second deal, per JewishHindu (Thanks!)

You should have called them for the following deal. AppleCare still available for $250 instead of $350.

SOLD OUT!
Model #2 ($1599):
2.6ghz Core2Duo
17" normal-res display (1600x900)
160gb HD (?RPM)
2gb RAM (upgradeable to 4gb for $100)
256mb video

SOLD OUT!
Model #1 ($1499):
2.4ghz Core2Duo
17" Hi-res display (1920x1200)
160gb 5400rpm
2gb RAM (upgradeable to 4gb for $100)
256mb video

Old Deal, now sold out

Seen on DealMac. (In fact it is a deal negotiated by DealMac according to a CSA at Springboardmedia)

Springboard Media offers the Apple MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz 17" Notebook for $1,799. Plus, mention dealmac when ordering and get free shipping. That's easily the lowest total price we've seen for this model; for comparison, Apple charges $2,500 for a similar, yet refurbished, system. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz processor, 17" 1920x1200 HD display, 2GB memory, 200GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB video card, built-in iSight camera, Bluetooth, and more. Springboard Media is an authorized Apple reseller.

Called them up; they have enough for about 2 more hrs at the rate they are selling them. This has to be one of the hottest Macbook Pro deals I have ever seen. Green is my favorite color!

I didn't need to mention dealmac for the free shipping. Ships UPS ground with tracking. Said they would get shipped out today.

Just to clarify in the summary section, these are the "Late 2007" 17-inch models and not the "Early 2008" 17-inch models. That means when the next 17-inch Macbook Pros come out, these Late 2007 models will be 2 generations old. Speed-wise, the Late 2007 and Late 2008 models are probably very similar, but I just wanted to bring this up as a fine point. As others have mentioned, such as the first post below, there is no multi-touch trackpad, no LED backlighting, and a few other things.

Keep in mind that Apple is likely to be introducing new MacBook Pros on September 9. That being said, I can't imagine what they could be introducing that would make this anything other than an astonishingly good deal -- to configure exactly the same computer (with 2.6GHz processor, 7200RPM drive, high-res LED backlit display) NEW from store.Apple.com would currently be $3199 + tax.

Edit: as others have pointed out, the new one isn't exactly the same; vs. the most current model, this one is missing 2MB cache, pinch-to-zoom trackpad (though it does still have multi-touch scrolling), and LED backlighting. AFAIK it's otherwise identical (and new, with full Apple warranty), for $1400 less (also no tax for most). Still a screaming good deal.

You're are right that Apple will be introducing the Macbook Pros, maybe not on the 9th but soon. However I would be surprised to see them drop the base model's price much below $1799, and here you are getting a loaded system!

One other thing, this is the old 2.6Ghz processor, not the current one. Still should be beefy enough to chew through whatever you can throw at it. The only thing that could make this deal any hotter would be if this was the current year's model with the LED back-lit high-res display...

This is the previous generation -

It lacks 2MB in cache and also lacks the interactive touch pad the new models have.

A GREAT DEAL nonetheless... .but this is NOT the latest version.

With that said, I am soooo ready to order!!!!

Thanks OP

Super hot deal! I just called and placed my order, they are running out fast. Staff was really friendly. Mention DealMac and they also have a special for AppleCare for $249 as opposed to the normal $349, and also RAM upgrade from 2GB to 4GB is $100 vs $200 (still probably cheaper to do the upgrade yourself though).

Tempted to eBay, but I'll let those who really want to own one of these to take advantage

I just called and ordered one, too... had to keep calling cuz I got operator error messages and their answering machine... got through on the 12th try. Super friendly staff, offered free shipping, and $100 off Apple Care ($249 instead of $349). I asked him how they can afford to sell it so cheap and he said 3 reasons: 1) The trackpad doesn't have the touch response (pinching, zooming, etc); 2) 200 GB HDD instead of 250; 3) 256 VRAM instead of 512. Everything else is upgraded, though - faster hard drive, processor, etc. Totally worth it! Plus, it's unlikely the new macbooks are coming out anytime before January.

Bought one too. I have been waiting for a good deal. Couldn't afford the 17" any other way. Saved over $1200 off the student discount prices I would have gotten through Apple. Looks pretty sweet, heavy upgrades. Now just have to wait for shipping...

lol go ahead and try to eBay them, you will end up losing money.

Take a look at craiglist listings, the same specs selling for $1200ish, brand new.

yeah i agree, no money to be made here. And everyones dumping these older models faster than anyone can imagine all over eBay.

and as far as the rumors go, its all over the internet and its real. Theyre making the body out of aluminum, changing the trackpad to make it more ipodish and upgrading the video/hd

Do they have a return policy?

I called the store and asked them the following. Are they correct in what they are saying?

"Is this a backlit LED display?"
"No"
"Is there a big difference between backlit and the previous model display, for an end user?"
"No"

I love the new trackpad, but for $1500 more, I am not sure if I need it. The newer model has 6GB shared Cache and the older model has 4GB. This 2GB reduction is not a big issue for me, since I wont be coding on this.
