Hint: Buy yourself some "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" or "Quake II" at least.

John Carmack the pioneer of video games (game engines), got most of these games or I'd buy them again

Well I have to admit I never bought doom, just the shareware, never hexen, nor Quake1. Q2 and after I bought, but I still bought the super pack as many of those older games I never played.

I wonder if all newer systems can run the video on these. Back in the day when I played Doom, I remember I had to install upgraded video cards in my desktop PC to get the graphics to run right.

Yea, QuakeWorld and 3DFX FTW. Those were the days.

I loved DM4. I loved using the concussion blasts to knock people into the lava and watching them die. Satisfaction.

Can a person get any mods with these? There are tons of mods out for all the older games, improved textures etc... if they are bought here can you use any of that stuff or are you stuck with the original graphics?

I grabbed this over the weekend, it's well set-up and everything I tried runs under Vista64.

so...these used to be dos-based games, like Commander Keen. And some were shareware and some weren't...what exactly are we buying? Did they update them to run as windows apps?

Commander Keen is available for a mere $2.50. These games are a nostalgic thrill (if you've played them previously) or just plain fun (if you haven't).

My only regret is that they don't have my favorite Keen game of all time: Aliens Ate My Babysitter

Wasn't doom. I remember "playing" it on a 386 with 3mb of RAM. Was slow as all hell, but you could run it if you reduced the screen size. Worked great on my 486 dx2 with 8mb RAM.

I just had a "Holy Crap" moment... 3mb of ram. Wow. I feel old and stuff.

(we wore onions on our belt, as was the custom...)

Just a small comment though - some games - most of the old fps's - are... really lame nowadays. Not being able to use the mouse makes playing them really odd and everything feels wrong.

Keen is timeless though. I played it on my 286 and it's still fun today. They did some amazing things with 16 and 256 colors. Buy it if you've never played!
