For those who wants bigger screen (10 inch), HD audio, longer battery life (6 cell battery), and much faster 802.11b/g/n support... It was $549.99 at Coscto, but is $449.99 from today on.
I personally like EEE pc, so I ordered this one. But if you are a big fan of Aspire One (6 cell + 160G HDD version), you can still order this one, use it and return it when Aspire one is available. As you guys know, Cosctco has crazy return policy. (Return within 3 months. No restocking fee.)

Even w/tax, it's a good deal 'cause Costco extends the MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY to two years from date of purchase.

I've got my 1000H on my desk right now at work. I'm listening to music on it with a set of bluetooth headphones. With the wireless N and bluetooth turned on and the cpu running stock 1.6Ghz speed, I get 4 hours of battery life. Much more comfortable sitting in the recliner with this when I'm surfing the net than with a full size laptop.
Can anyone provide info regarding the speed of this thing? I'm thinking of getting this for casual web surfing and maybe basic word processing. The most important factor for me is the quality of Divx/Xvid/RMVB playback on this mini laptop, how does it affect the battery life??

The bonus people are missing is the Costco free rental policy. It isn't a true rental policy, it is just the fact that Costco usually has a very generous return policy that makes it easy to return just about anything, and usually for a longer period of time than other merchants.

This is a great price but it makes me sad cause I bought might for $545 less than a month ago and ZipZoomfly doesn't pricematch or price adjust not even to themselves. But I'd definitely buy it again, no regrets here. I swapped out the 80gb hard drive for a 250gb and am using it as my main computer.

Just stopped by the B&M in Dublin, CA earlier this morning, and it was not available in-store (nor on display).

And that better machine still pales in comparison to my desktop, what is your point?
Why do people feel the need to respond to threads regarding products they know nothing about?

The EEE PC 1000HD is really the first good compromise Atom based solution between the basically worthless entry level Atom net PCs such as the Acer One and standard traditional dual core 14”-15” laptops. The higher res 10" screen, more than twice the battery life, and true Wifi with Bluetooth and rock solid build quality are definitely worth the extra $$ over the entry level Atom based offering now flooding the US market. Still personally I would wait a couple of months and get dual core Atom based net laptop
I went for the Dell mini with XP for $125 along with a Dell Studio purchase.

dual core atoms aren't coming next month its going to be a year before we even see them check engadget I think its scheduled for Q3 2009 so this will hold people over till then. This is the best bargin now it was the AA1 but for 50 bucks more you get wireless N, bluetooth, better webcam, multi touch keyboard and the ability to overclock and underclock the cpu and upgradable to 2GB of RAM by just opening the acess panel on the bottom. While the AA1 you need to dismantle the whole thing which is a major pain and maxes out at 1.5GB of ram. The only thing the Acer has up on it is 160gb HD. MSI doesn't have multi touch or 6 cell battery which will cost 550. The Lenovo the lesser priced one comes with no bluetooth and max 1.5 GB but comes with a larger HDD 120 and a express slot. And the Dell is just plan ugly and over priced with a crappy looking keyboard.
If you expect speed from this Eee then you are really missing the point. The whole reason to get the Eee or Acer Aspire One is to have something that is light (portable), can run most apps (with xP), and can last 4+ hours. And this Eee happens to have a decent keyboard (even for touch typing). If you want more computing power, get something else, but don't expect it run 4+ hours for less than $500.
I have this exact Eee and it runs about 4-5 hours. Also have an Aspire One that runs 6+ hours. If you can tolerate the size (keyboard and screen) then go with Acer. Build stronger and battery last way longer. If you need to type and can get by on 4-5 hour run time, go with this Eee. The price is good, especially coming from Costco. So return is never an issue.

Also from CEA...Even with Recent annouced by Intel delays for the Atom 330 processor ASUS committed to the CEA this week retail dual core atom products will be on retail shelves by year end or approx 3 months if Intel meets its early Q4 2008 delivery commitment to them.

The 10" screen isn't higher res than the 9" in the other netbooks, they are all 1024x600. The 10" just shows the same pixels bigger.
I didn't know these portables (the aspire, mini, etc) existed till about a week ago. This one is quite tempting with the 7.5 hours of battery life. Safe to assume that is just the max you could squeeze out of it. I would want one to play divx movies and mp3s on long 5 hour flights. Do you guys think this would work? Was a bit hesitant seeing the warranty is 1 year, but only 6 months on the battery.

Yes but the 10" will show the full 1024x600 at a natural aspect ratio that most laptop users are use to using without the need for scrolling to view the entire screen contents or distorting the display like current 9" displays on entry level net laptops
my only gripe is the 10" is an entire pound heavier! I'd rather go with the smaller screen, sure it might not sound like a lot, but that's a 50% increase from a 2lb laptop

Awesome summary of the various netbooks currently available or soon pending - thanks!
Edit: I just remembered that one of the primary reasons I was drawn to the AA1 was its 2.3 pound weight (3-cell battery). Now it's a bit of a wash with the 6-cell AA1 weighing closer to 2.8 pounds, but while it's still half a pound less than the 3.2 pound 1000HD, the AA1's 6-cell battery protrudes from the back, which I still haven't decided whether that is a dealbreaker...

Very good point, but for us older folks one inch makes all the difference.

How are you going to believe the notebook vendor when Intel there company making the CPU already listed the roadmap for the upcoming CPU Dual Core Atom Q3 2009 The ones that came out in July are meant for desktop and have a higher wattage then the netbook atoms. Also Intel has been very accurate on when the are releasing their chips unlike Asus which seem to always delay their products. As you can see the Dual core atom is based on the linecroft architecture not silverthorne which has a intergrated graphics core and connects memory via DMI rather than FSB

yah the weight of the EEE PC is a drawback but like everything its possitives out way the negatives. I myself had a AA1 from the bestbuy deal for 250 and loved it. It was a pain to upgrade the memory because the screws are easily stripped and I had to end up drilling out three screws that were stripped. I sold it recently on eBay not because I didnt like it but I wanted to get a lil bigger screen but the keyboard in my opinion is one of the best and well as the footprint. Also why are we stuck with the finger print magnet black one why can't we get the white one like the UK. And correct me if Im wrong doesnt costco have a lifetime warranty or something or did they stop doing that? And whats the return policy for costco. I have a costco in houston but the 8.25% tax kills it and was wondering if i should go through Amazon and get extended warantty to clerance club for 15.99 Linky

That is very interesting. Can you please elaborate a little more on this. I have preordered a Aspire One from Amazon for $399. Debating whether to go for this instead. My initial reaction was also same as above that is "The 10" screen isn't higher res than the 9" in the other netbooks, they are all 1024x600. The 10" just shows the same pixels bigger". Apart from built in blue tooth, does any one know of other advantages of this over 6 cell Aspire One. I know that Aspire one at least has bigger hard disk than this.
