At the Pearland, TX WalMart store, I saw a CSR hauled a Samsung HDTV with a red price sticker from the back of the Electronics deparment for a customer, so I followed him to the register and took a closer look and found it's a 42 inch plasma for $400! This was brand new in the box, and the display model was not even on the floor.

I went back to the Electronics department and asked if there was any left. Another guy who worked at the bank inside the WalMart store bought another one. I got the last one brand new, lucky me! 3 units were sold in 5 minutes: yes, I was in the right place at the right time.

This is VERY YMMV. The original price is $897. The date on the box is May 2008 (not sure whether it's the shipping date to WalMart), and it's made in Mexico.

Link to the Samsung's website:
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=plasmatv&model_cd=PN42A410C1DXZA

Here is the link on the WalMart's website for this HDTV:
http://www.WalMart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9875092

Copy and paste the above link. Then enter your zip code. According to WalMart's Check Availability results, only 4 stores in the Houston metro area still have it, and only 4 stores in the St. Louis metro area have it. So not every store may have it, and not every store is willing to sell it at this crazy price. Please note that WalMart's Check Availability is still in BETA testing phase, so it's not 100% accurate and up-to-date. For the Houston area, the Pearland store (FM518 & Dixie Farm Road) was not even listed based on its inventory as of September 12 even though I witnessed at least 3 units (inlcuding mine) sold at the register on September 18.

The Pearland store # is 3510 (intersection of FM518 & Dixie Farm Road). The store phone # is 218-482-5016. The product # on the receipt and the bar code on the red price sticker are the same: 003672522840. They scanned the bar code on the red price sticker. So my guess is that the key is to have the CSR enter this number, not the original bar code on the carton which is 0036725228405 with an additional digit "5" at the end. Good luck!

The TV is great for the money and for my purpose, a lot more options to play with than my Sony Trinitron 35" CRT, but apparently the speaker quality is worse than the Sony (not that the Sony can outperform my Hifi system); that's why I am connecting the plasma to a receiver. I'm watching over the air HDTV, great quality imho.

For those who think that I am making this up, please call the store at 218-482-5016 and give them the red price sticker # 003672522840, and then report back. Also, I emailed KCMO the scanned receipt. Please ask him to put it online as I don't have a web hosting service.

tlcxy reported that return and rebuy worked at the Pearland store:

Bought one, returned it at Pearland WalMart and bought it back. Works! Thanks for the OP and other useful suggestions.

PS. Talked half hour with several Pearland WalMart managers Walter, Lewis, and Cindy to eventually get the $400 price. One of them told me that this model will be on sale in all Wal-Mart stores and if someone wants the same price, call Pearland Wal-Mart and talk with them.

Lastly, the address of the Pearland Wal-Mart is:
1710 Braodway St. Pearland, TX (281)482-5016.

This deal is dead. Even the Pearland store does not honor the clearance price without the last digit of the SKU # on the carton any more.

So do I just have to wait for a hurricane to decimate my local WalMart for this deal? :/

alert mods

There is one store in my area showing availability that is about 25 miles away and it's open 24 hours so I'm off on a mission.

How'd that turn out for you IsoLate? There's one in a WalMart 30miles from me. Considering making the trip but then again online it shows the in stock items were last updated at 10am this morning so any sane person who saw it would have already bought it today.

wow a great awesome deal. I need a TV really bad so I can play my Xbox in HD...

Im SEARCHING

even if I found this I don't think I'd want it .. as cheap as it is. 42" Plasmas resolution is 1024X768, not even 1366X768.... let alone the 1920X1080 that's getting common on $1000 LCD's. That's pretty low res by today's standars for watching programming. For contrast, DVD resolution is 720X480 so this is about 50% more pixels in each direction and around 50% bigger in each direction than a 27" TV. So basically your material will be progressive but this has similar dots per inch to a 4:3 27" SDTV....

The strange resolution also makes it basically unusable as a computer monitor.

i think it's pretty obvious that Izproof paid $2,500 for this same TV a few months ago

$400 for a Samsung 42" Plasma is unheard of and not a deal you pass up if it's in front of you at that price. I don't think many people, if anyone, uses a Plasma as a computer monitor anyways. I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure the start menu would be perma burnt in after a few weeks haha. Also a regular Plasma @ 1024x768, being so freakin vibrant and bright, looks just as good, if not better, than most lower end 1080p sets. I have a 42" Plasma and a 42" 1080p and the Plasma looks much better even with the lower resolution (watching HDTV and regular DVDs, not blue ray)

It was a total bust out for me. I checked the only place that had stock within 100 miles. I didn't see the TV on the floor in the box or a display model so I asked them if they could check stock and of course they did exactly what I had already done. Looked at the display models and the boxes on the shelf. I told her it showed that they had stock online so she asked a manager and she said "did you look in the back?". The manager then went to look in the back and had someone pulling it down when she came out to tell me. I asked her if we could double check the price before she went loading up the forklift because I have a friend in TX that picked one up on clearance for around $400 and she said "I guarantee it's not going to be $400". Sure enough she was right and the price was $867 which is even more than the $827 it's listed for online. She also said they had 6 in-stock. I can't imagine why. Anyway, I have a friend who manages the electronics dept. in another location so I'll have him check into it tomorrow.

Similar case with me. There was one in stock in my local W. Not outside so I had someone check the back. Yes they did have one. As an experienced FW-er I did not say a word all the way to the cashier. It rings full price, so that's when I start talking. I know that sometimes the WalMart mainframe shows the actual price and the specific store could be off so I asked the store manager on duty to check for me. He refused telling me that he guarantees me it will not be that low. He also guaranteed me that they will not pricematch their own stores with the explanation that they do not do that and different stores have different prices for the same item. Do you guys believe that?
Anyways, I bought it, paid 999.XX after tax and loaded it up because I know that it will not wait for me to come back, but I always can return it.

So now:
OP please post a scan of the receipt, or PM me one. Pretty please, sugar on top...

FW community, advise how to deal with this situation or just turn around and return it? your advices are much appreciated.

Thanks to all.
