jimmy: the modification is a nice simple idea to prevent the problem, but did the screws coming on the inside rub against or interfere with the chute from turning and rotating smoothly? |

Works just fine. All the screws have been shaved off on the inside so that they only go through about 1/16 of an inch.

is the root cause tied to the movement of the chute then? |

No. I think it's because the snow goes up the chute, hits the deflector to make it come out in the direction you want, and the constant hitting on the deflector makes this ring crack and break. On another note, while I was gone this week, UPS delievered ANOTHER plastic chute ring. Now I have 2 (still in the boxes). Hopefully my modification will hold out forever. TERRIBLE design IMHO. |

My (plastic) chute ring just arrived today - put it on, looks spiffy. Of course, just as it STOPS snowing here! I actually used the snowblower a couple of times without the chute attached - boy does this thing kick the snow up pretty high! I would second what jimmywalt said - it seems that the chute design just isn't robust enough to take the force of snow being expelled. Remember how we were all excited in September that this engine was actually pretty powerful and a really good deal? Well, this seems to be the drawback... I think I'm going to take the old broken-in-half piece and save it to make a metal modification with, and possibly order another plastic part for backup before they're all gone. Still happy I got this snowblower, though - sure was happy seeing all the people grumbling about paying $400 and $500 for small models similar to this one at WalMart and Home Depot in the middle of the January snows! |

If you're in the mid-west the snow will return. It's only February. I have 2 extra chutes (that I hope I never have to use since I have the modified one), but I just might get another to have on hand "just in case". |

Last snow we had was two weekends ago. Today it hit 68 in some parts of SE MI. But it can snow heavily even into late March & I've seen some big snow flakes in April at times. But maybe all the snow is over for this season. I might order another chute ring as another insurance spare. My machine has done me well throughout this winter season. Best snow blower I've owned thus far. Note -- Daylight Savings Time on Saturday night --- Spring Forward! |

Note -- Daylight Savings Time on Saturday night --- Spring Forward! I agree with you. I live in the west side on Michigan. Yesterday I went to run the gas out of the blower, because I'm praying that the snow is done for this season. Get this..... the machine was almost empty of gas (I looked in the fuel hole), I started the blower and it ran for almost 45 minutes before I got sick and tired of it running and I turned it off!!!! How in the world could it run so long and not run out of gas? Like I said, it was ALMOST empty when I started it. Does this thing has some sort of reserve tank that you can't see which holds gas??? How is it possible that it would run that long (and probably would have even gone longer if I would have let it)????? This is just crazy but I love the blower! |

for those curious, i had another problem with mine, when the chute ring broke it also cracked part of the auger housing. I added the in-home servicing on it, so they're going to come down and hopefully repair it, but my blower has had too many problems this winter. very poor designing on craftsmans part. |
