Caught this buried in this thread. Thought this deserved it's own thread because it's a smokin' hot deal. I've been looking for 50" TV and this got me jumpin'.
Bestbuy has the Samsung 50" Plasma TV on sale this week for $999 Link to TV
You get $400 off with combined purchase of this Samsung plasma HDTV and DVD home theater system - Home Theater System is on sale for $379. Samsung - 1200W 5.1-Ch. XM-Ready Home Theater System with Upconvert DVD Player HT-TZ512 Link to Special offer
Combined price for TV and Home Theater is $977. When you purchase TV rings up for $597, home theater rings up at full price, I'm sure you can see the real deal here. I just picked up my TV, made purchase so I picked up at two different stores, have receipt for TV at $597, I still haven't picked up my Home Theater, might be a long while before I do
Thanks to MysticMan1 who pointed out the sale on Samsung and edscholl for mentioning the special pricing discount w/home theater.
Other useful info found within this thread, posting here to make it quick to find Thanks to billybabe3883, the HT is on sale at CircuitCity for $15 less ($364.99). For those who want to keep the HT you can get price adjustment: Link to Cir City's
From rhkanmt: You can get a 3 year warranty thru SquareTrade for $59.50 using the code FIFTYOFF. I used $600 for the TV cost. SquareTrade Warranty Link
From TrueKnight: Here is a $20AR tilt wall-mount at RadioShack:$59-$40=$19. Free shipping or pickup at store. Linky-LouUpdate:Looks like RatShack caught the error in their pricing, price is now $59 AFTER rebate. Thanks rshaslam
Wow - good buy! Wonder if you can take back/return the home theater system as I see this is an online deal only. You mentioned you weren't going to pickup the the home theater for a while...doubt they'd just "refund" your money if you failed to pick it up. So you purchase both items online, pick them up at local BB, go back the next day and return the home theater system at full price?

This is their return policy for bundled products: Bundle Purchases You may return bundle purchases in accordance with our standard Return Policy. If you are unsatisfied with an individual item you purchased as part of a bundle package, you may return that item separately.
Note: In some cases, a bundle discount has been applied to each item. You will be refunded the discounted price, which may differ from the price if you purchased it individually. To review the amount you will be refunded for each individual item within the bundle, visit the My Account page after you submit your order.
So does anyone know if they will refund the full price of the HT system if you return it later or never pick it up?

How YMMV is something like this? Will this lead to harassment from Best Buy calling to ensure pick up of both?
I see no way around this. You must pay the Subtotal: $977.98 + tax to get this. WHen you return the home theater system, you will pay the full price. If you dont pick it up, you still ended up paying the full price to place the order
This is an Extremely huge YMMV....I am guessing very few if any will get this deal
Just my 2 cents worth...without crapping
Edit to add. Good Luck to all and congrats if you are successful..it would be a good deal
Flame away all you want, it wont change the fact that this probably won't happend the way the OP hoped

Not too long ago I ordered a Kodak C613 + one DVD movie from Bestbuy; as a bundle-deal, the camera cost less than $50 (don't remember the exact number).
The DVD never shipped. Instead I found a charge of $25 something from Bestbuy to my AMEX card a few days later. I figured that they don't have the DVD to ship, and decided that I should pay them for not shipping the movie I purchased.
I called AMEX and they suspend the charge and said they'll discuss with Bestbuy. No further notice yet.

And this relates to this deal how?
Thanks for posting OP. I have absolutely no use for a 50" Plasma, so naturally I've ordered one. I suppose I have some time to figure out if I really care to keep it or not before they deliver it.

Well if you read the OP about "not picking up the Home Theater, you'll know how this is related. I was charged an additional $25 to make up for the full price for the camera, only because BB failed to ship part of the bundle. And now the OP is talking about intentionally not picking up part of a bundle. Very YMMV.
BB does charge you the full amount before you pick up the item. However if you fail to pickup the item after 8 days, BB will cancel it. The question is whether they will refund the whole $379. I would suspect it is just YMMV. Some people might get. Others not. You simply take your chances & hope you are charming enough to convince their CSR's if you happen to have a problem later.

Correct, and since there is free delivery why not use it and order the Tv for free delivery and the HT for store pickup and you know the rest.

I am very tempted to do this, but can anyone confirm BB refunding the full price of an item not picked up from the store that is part of a promotion?

That's what I did. My TV is scheduled for delivery next Wed. I imagine I'll get a "ready for pick up" email in the morning for the home theater.
Guess I'll wait until the very last day to make a "more informed" decision on the pick up. Fingers crossed for 50" top tier Plasma for $600.

You know guys you can always get a store credit (for surround sound) and buy something that you can resell for exact cost ie. Xbox, Wii, PS3 (holidays coming up)... or something like that. That way you still technically bought both items yet you sold the second to make up for the cost.
My order confirmation receipt lists NOTHING about the promotion or bundle discount. It clearly lists the TV at $597 and the HT system at $429 respectively. There is no evidence thaat this was a bundle promotion and the receipt I printed proves it. There is no contest to that.
This thread will be an interesting read over the next week or so. Since I bought in, and my set won't be delivered(Oct 1) for a week, I'll be very interested.

Good Luck to you Sir...I sincerely hope this works out for you and others
Just pulled the trigger technically they can't charge you until you pick it up.

So if I buy into this, and don't pick up the HT, but I'm charged a net total of the TV+tax after it is all said and done, the worst thing that can happen is I return it no harm/no foul?
swintec said: The question is, do they in fact put an authorization on the funds or charge the card when you submit the purchase??? Can anyone confirm?
Yes, the full purchase price is authorized and will actually post before you pickup.
Can I just also mention that I think this TV even at $977 with the home Theater system is a pretty dam good deal as it stands? Yes, it would be great to get it for $600 (HUGE YMMV) but it is still a pretty darn sweet packaged deal.

Any thoughts.. I think the resell idea is great. Now my question...what exactly do you mean by "get a store credit (for surround sound)?" Are you saying that only surround sound items can be exchanged for store credit? *confused*
TrueKnight said: Was going to try for the return HTIB and avoid the "automatic" increase but later changed mind. It's a pretty nice system. It is a pretty nice system. Having watched the deals since, I think the bundle was the HDTV deal of 2008. I really love the matched htib.
