This is good product which does not take space and does limited scanning job, but I believe in $70 I can get Full Size Document scanner like previous deals for Panasonic Scanner at Frys, and also at Costco which scans paper as 17ppm. If you are looking for general document scanning solution then this may not be the one.

I ordered one. On the manufacturer's web site it says pc version owners can download the mac version for free.

This is a refurbished unit. OP should mention that. Also, the new v4.0 has come out here. The price of the v3 units will be coming down a lot. Last week, Fry's had it for $100 new. You might be able to get a new one for $75 soon(?)

4.0 is out now but i think at a third the price 3.0 should be fine for those of us that can use this, i travel 5 days a week and constantly have to put expense reports in and i've been eying this for a year now. I'm also a little lacking on the organizational side and i have papers ALL over my house that i would LOVE to get rid of and host on my server.

Green op, i haven't been checking woot lately so thanks for pointing this out.

I don't know all the implications of that. Also, I think their database format has changed at least a few times between those versions. You might end up with a more primitive version of their system. Not sure how easy/possible it is to move data back and forth.

Is the software proprietary to the hardware? Can the software be used with a regular scanner?

And if it can't be used with a regular scanner, are there any other software solutions that will scan receipts into a database like the Neat Receipts does?

The FAQ on their site alludes to the fact that any TWAIN source may work but it will not be supported.

As to the second part, there are some solutions that may work depending upon how you work and what you want done. Quicken 2007 and later support directly scanning an image to attach to the transaction.

I have the 3.0 version and as a small business owner I can tell you that it's the single best thing I've ever bought for my biz. Don't compare this to a flatbed, because flatbeds are a pain in the rear for multiple documents. This you just pop in the mouth and it goes, no platen to lift up, position, etc. MUCH easier, I LOVE this thing.

I am curious about 4.0 though, the main problems I have with 3.0 are that if you get an email receipt it's a pain to import. Also you can't select a contacts folder to import biz cards into Outlook they must go to the default contacts database in Outlook. I hope they fixed that in 4.0...
