I loved my sansa 2gb I got from woot, but it died 6 months after getting it. Tempted, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth. |
good deal. but can anybody tell difference between the original one and the Rhapsody one? |
wtfamonkey said:good deal. but can anybody tell difference between the original one and the Rhapsody one? Rhapsody one works with the Rhapsody pay for tunes music service...both versions (Rhapsody and regular) can be 'rockboxed' if they are v1, but there are extra steps to rockbox the Rhapsody version. If woot ships v2 of these players they will not work with rockbox.

thanks. whitman. ill be getting the original one. crossing fingers on the if it can support rockbox |
Ouch.... Last week I bought 6GB version should have waited for 8GB. oh well.. |
Bought the non R version myself since I'm never going to be a Rhapsody customer. There's a review on CNET that tells you slights differences: Also bought the SquareTrade 1-Year Warranty since these Sansas have a high chance of messing up on you, especially since this is a refurbished product. So, $60 for an 8GB MP3 with 15-Months Warranty. That's a pretty good deal. |
This sounds like a good deal. I have the 2GB version and am very impressed with its overall quality like the metal case vs. plastic. Mine was "refurbished" but it looked brand new. It dis "lock up" once. The cure is to take it apart (Phillips screws) and disconnect the battery for a few seconds. This resets it. If you get the Rhapsody version you can do a standard Windows 'format' of the Sansa drive and it will then let you load MP3's from your hard drive using standard Windows cut and paste/drag and drop. |

I have the 4gb version and I am very happy with it. Playing Doom on it with Rockbox just makes it better. |
The 8 gig Sansa E280 is available at Froobi.com for $49.95 with discount code ROCKBOX10. Comes with free shipping |
Good deal. I ended up buying one from TigerDirect for $70 a month and a half ago. Since this is refurb, like usual on woot, it should be v1 and thus rockbox-able. I broke my previous one soldering a header onto it... Apparently the SOC inside it is quite sensitive to heat. I suppose it would have helped to have the data sheet, oh well. If you're curious, here is a photo of the crazy rework on my old refurb sansa. The player worked just fine, though, until I broke it. It's hard to tell in the photo, but some of those blobs next to the protruding 30 gauge wire are actually solder, not dust. |

Same thing happened to mine, but I read to just unscrew the back cover, take the battery out, put it back in, and.....voila!!! I turned it back on. Haven't had a problem since. |

These refurbs are iffy and many seems to die after a few months, just as the warranty they come with ends. |

At SquareTrade I entered the item price as $49.99 (assuming they wouldn't cover s/h) and the quote came out to $3.99 for 1 year. I chose the "2nd year" option for an additional $2, then used the coupon which subtracted $1.80. Total for 2 year warranty is $4.19 for me, but you stated it as $4.19 for the 1-year warranty. Smoking hot deal for an 8GB with 2 year warranty for $60+tax. Rockbox and a 8gb SDHC card, and I'll be a happy camper. I had an e-270 that I bought for about the same price a few months ago, but someone at my office has sticky fingers, so it walked away one night. This one will be watched much more carefully. |

Can't you buy the player @ Froobi and then get the extended waranty @ SquareTrade? |

SquareTrade has a box where you type in the name of the retailer, and it provides you with matches to the retailer name you type from a list of their approved retailers. Woot is part of the SquareTrade group of retailers in that list, Froobi doesn't appear to be. |
Hey thanks so much LGerlack ! That's such a great find. =) I just jumped to it and ordered myself one. The only thing is, froobie.com charged my credit card twice.. and it's not showing up in my order history. Do not re-enter your credit card information when froobie.com tells you your credit card can't be charged at this time. I think that's what caused it, lol. I've never heard of how good their customer service is but I just shoot them an e-mail. I hope they fix it soon. |
