Ok...the bigfathead is a paintballer...I been paintballing for 5 years.

now..this is a piece of junk marker. for 100 bucks on eBay you can get a basis ion from smart parts which is 100 times better than this piece of junk marker.

The JT is a commercial approach to paintballing..and if you want to look and shot like a newbie...

with this kind of marker I can run at you firing my 15 pbs with accuracy and you be wipe out before you have a chance to respond.

The problem with these cheap marker is they use springs instead of standard air vacuum approach to movement of the bolt.

The ion like other non spring markers are quiet light and ACCURATE.

I use to have a spyder spring type marker...it was fun....but the ion is a blast.

Any JT lovers out there...I had a JT 6.0 ...it worked..but not as well as my ion

ION with upgraded tech bolt, new board, Freak barrel system (the barrel system is the most critical)...you can get this for under 200 total...and still do well against the 800 dollar markers. (The ion...although cheap...uses a patent off the dye markers..which they were sued by dye..but the design still kicks butt)

yes..I like to have ego...but I can hold and hit a target 100 feet away with consistent accuracy...try doing that with JT...it wont happen.

Not to thread-crap as this price is good, but buyer beware. The JT Tac-5 was (and today seems to still be) prone to alot of problems. The first being the overall construction is subpar. The materials and cheap metals used in fabrication have been known to crack, seperate, shatter, and any other self-destructive adjective you'd like to throw at it.

The bolt itself was recalled due to the plastic housing it originally was constructed with. (Supposedly its been remanufactured with an aluminum replacement)

Its a entry level marker, but don't ask too much of it. If you're a weekend warrior and don't want to spend big money on a mid-range marker, it might be right for you. Just dont beat on it if you are a woodsballer- (IE: jumping over a hay bale and landing arms out, gun extended in front of you is probably a bad idea)

Smart Parts Ions are not that great either. They are ok if you go once a year and want to rip up people with tippmans, but in the hierarchy of paintball markers the Ion is bad. Although the Ion XE did address some horrible maintainability issues with the original Ion you'd pretty much have to buy it new, and that ain't so cheap I think the best $150 range marker would be the Smart Parts Vibe or Proto SLG if you want a solid marker without having to invest that much more.

The mask is also a very important investment, and V-force Profilers are the best value.

From here your on your own, but BEWARE, there are so many upgrades and accessories in the sport that is very easy to blow a ton of money.

A good resource for this sort of stuff is, techpb.com. pbnation.com is more extensive, but I shy away from there

Agreed it isn't a bad deal for a BASIC kit, but I just don't want people to buy it and throw it away. Like someone said before, a bunch of JT products are just to get players in the game to buy their higher end products. I'm not advocating people spend tons of money, but as a paintball player (and fatwallet addict) I don't want people buying things that they will be disappointed with only to either spend more money later on a proper marker or not play paintball at all in the future because of a crappy marker.

Literally, the Tippmans you rent at the field are better than the Tac 5. The Tippmans might not shoot straight because they aren't properly maintained but Tac 5's shoot terrible out of the box brand new. The reason why fields rent tippmans is because they are like AK-47's and shoot almost every time, albeit not straight all the time.

Recreational (woods) players get very frustrated with guns not shooting straight and I've been through that. But skimping on a gun that a player would probably keep for the rest of their lives is not the best solution.

Totally junk marker, don't waste your time - unless you're a total newbie just wanting to get started. Even then I'd go find a Tippman on sale at one of the Big Box sporting goods stores. But for newbies try it at this price, you may get hooked and want to move up to the big time guns such as the Angels or the Egos... Green for this post for the newbies but the vets wouldn't waste their time.

Don't chintz on a mask or you will regret it!!!
