If this had a 4 GB internal hard drive instead of a memory card drive, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. I might still buy it, its half the price of what I want, but its only half the camera I want also. Might be a good starter camera instead of dropping $400-500 for an HD with a 30 GB hard drive with usb connection

Why would you want a hard drive over SD memory? Hard drives are prone to failure, take lots of energy, and might make noise. Beyond that, SD is dirt cheap and getting cheaper.

My last camera was MiniDV and I just got rid of it...I got tired of the mechanical tape noise being captured when filming in a quiet environment.

I am in for one. FYI: There is some audio noise in recording shown here: http://www.vimeo.com/1495104

I don't know anyone who's bought a 30-40 gb harddrive HD camera that doesn't think its a thousand times better than anything they've ever used before. They've never had any failures with it, have no noise complaint and can shoot for hours and store tons of video on their camera.

I don't know anyone who's bought a BMW or MB that doesn't think it is a thousand times better than the Suzuki Swift they could have purchased for a fraction of the price.

This is a $180 camcorder, if you want a hard drive model you are going to spend a whole lot more (and get a better camcorder). Sure, if this model DID have a hard drive and was sold for $180 we would all buy one .

Heh, well a 4GB HD would be quite limiting, they are selling an 8 GB SDHC card for $10 at Newegg... I'm sure a 4GB HD would be much larger than a SD card, consume more power, etc

My first hard drive based camcorder, dead out of the box.

So I'm on my second.
I like that I can store tons of video, but the battery never last that long so its almost pointless to have all that space. Though it is handy on vacations when I can't transfer data as frequently, but the battery again... I suppose I could spend half the value of the camera or so to get a bigger battery, but it still wouldn't improve battery life that much. With the way that SD card prices are going, I think I would prefer to use SDHC because I don't need to carry an additional cable to transfer the data (my computers/laptops have SD card readers), I can swap out memory easily (good if equipment is ever confiscated....), plus the aforementioned size and battery consumption.

I would pick this up if I didn't already have a camcorder I hardly use...

That same person later posted at Steve's digicam review that the problem was the SD card. He used a different brand and the noise is gone.

Actually if you read the post, I wasn't talking about this camera. The person was complaining about harddrive cameras and the noise and failure of them, and I said that anyone I know didn't have those problems with hard drives cameras NOT at any time talking about the $180 one. So I wasn't comparing a $400-1200 camera (BMW your reference) to a $180 (Suzuki your reference) camera.

Jeez, I guess I can't pass this up...Getting it site to store and will at least give it a try. Seems pretty decent for $180. Anyone found good deals on an 8gb SDHC? Has anyone tried a larger card?
