I like my $600 50" Samsung plasma from Best Buy better.

Why do we have to wade through so much muck?

Haier brand. Never heard of it, until I researched it. The same people that sell all the appliances in your house.
Best T.V. I ever had.

That's just my opinion though.

not that I am dissing you, but I bet that was the only plasma you've had.

How many plasma's does someone have to own before you aren't dissing them?

I've owned 42" vizio plasma, 50" Vizio plasma, 42" Sceptre LCD, 52" Philips LCD, 50" Panasonic Plasma, and 42" Philips Plasma to this date. Best TV I've had was 52" Philips LCD so far.

I just can't trust anyone claiming to have the best TV in his life when in fact he busted his butt on black friday to buy a haier brand for $499.
The best TV in his life, not your life. Sounds like you've got plenty of disposable income and you're burning up the plasmas and lcd's. Not everyone is so finicky that they aren't satisfied with the first screen they get. So, if he says it's the best tv he has ever had, how do you disagree?

Please read my op. How do you claim to have experienced the best plasma when in fact it was the only one you had? I was assuming it was the only one he ever had since he busted his butt overnight to get one at 499

He never said best "PLASMA" he said Best TV I've had was 52" Philips LCD so far" Best TV, who knows how many kinds he has or has had.

Haier is one of the top electronic appliance manufacturer in China, equivalent of Maytag or GE here.

I do grocery shopping for vegetables, the way you do TV shopping, but I guess thats because the economy is down. Oh and by the way, you need to keep the TVs, not buy and watch and return them for it to be counted as bought a TV.

When it comes to new LCD TVs-

Samsung, LG, and Sony are all very good.
I can't tell much of a difference between them.
Toshiba and Sharp are also very good.

Vizio and Olevia look good too, but are usually cheaper than any of the above, given the same screen size. And they usually are missing a few features, but not always.

Philips is a real mixed bag. Some look great, but I hear horror stories about certain models. Maybe it's just a few unhappy customers who don't like them.

If I were plunking down $500, I'd stick with one of the brands above. But that's just me.

I think you all should stop bashing Pun. We all know what luckybum was trying to say. If his Haier was so great, it would be more popular than other brands. Yes, I do understand he might be saying it is the best tv he has ever owned, CRT or flat panel. But Pun's point was there are probably better alternatives. Let's move on and stick to the topic. Thanks.

For those who are not in a hurry to buy and are waiting for Black Friday specials, you can also expect a second flood of TV deals in February when NTSC over the air broadcasting ends.

This is my original post about owning my current plasma.
No where did I say I spent $499 as some have claimed.

All I tried to do was alert people that a good deal was coming up. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's no wonder I hesitated joining this forum. Too many people do nothing but attack.
I thank those that try to help.

Knowledge is power. Good to know something about Haier. Never knew anything about it before, so thanks. Since BF is around the corner, any tip is helpful.

To those who have the time and interest...Happy due diligence:

City of Industry? And no rebate to be denied? Am I in "Opposite World"...?

If you want peace of mind, buy a Sony, Samsung or Panasonic. They are the best of the best. If you want a cheaper LCD TV, then go buy a Vizio. You can't lose. I would not buy a Westinghouse, Olevia or other non-brand. It is a real hassle to have to return a TV, especially if it is bought thru online. You may want to check out Costco, they give 2 year warranty on all TVs (double the manufacturer standard); and you get to return within 90 days. No questions asked.

So we're supposed to trust YOUR claims on plasmas then? Seems like you've owned quite a few plasmas in the FEW years they've been around. Guess THOSE ones aren't too great if you're going through them so fast.

You obvious dont have very good eyesight....I seen plasmas stack up side by side at costco..and its a no brainer the panasonic blows the visio out the water.

I've seen no less than 5 Vizios in real life environments, all running on cable. I am far less than impressed with that brand. Olevias produce a better picture, IMO.

Panasonic is in the top 3 for sure. I don't count Sony as they use Sharp panels and then spend millions to get Peyton Manning to tell you to buy their HDTV's. However, isn't it pretty much well known that retailers specifically tweak the calibrations to make the higher end sets like Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic look much better than lower ends such as Olevia/westinghouse/Vizio/etc.?

I definitely agree the name brands carry better warranty and piece of mind however. My Olevia 42" 1080p stopped working after 47 days. Called Olevia - they said if it had broke within 45 days they would have sent me a new refurb. Almost like they rubbed it in my face I was 2 days out of that range. Anyways, they bumped me up through the support ladder until they told me to ship it to them at a cost of $225. Yea right. I was about to throw the TV out or sell it as broken but then said what the hell and took it apart. I used it as a computer monitor but then got in on that $200 26" Soyo so I wasn't too worried about it. Anyways...Replaced 4 swollen capacitors and bam -works like new now. Really makes me wonder how many people have TV's that break like that and then pay to get them fixed for hundreds or just scrap them.

I specifically liked theDynex BestBuy picture in store. I'm 95% sure Dynex is made by BestBuy - and this TV looks amazing in the store. I've seen it at 2 different BB's while just browsing and the picture looks fantastic. That TV, since it's made by BB, is guaranteed to be a door buster come BF and Xmas (was last year). At just $679 right now, I predict it being $400 for BF door buster.
