Two years ago I busted my butt on Black Friday out in the cold at o'dark thirty in the morning just to buy a 42" Plasma. Haier brand. Never heard of it, until I researched it. The same people that sell all the appliances in your house. Best T.V. I ever had.

buddy, haier is a famous brand in china and they have sold electrics in US for many years. but the "shell" is totally a different story. Nobody ever heard it.

FWIW, I've seen a few articles saying that there will be a surplus of LCDs over the next few months due to increases in manufacturing capacity and the poor economy. They expect pricing to drop accordingly and if I remember correctly the sweet spot would be many 32" LCD TVs going for about $350.

Haier is probability the best electronic manufacture in China. Their products are good and affordable.

I've owned 42" vizio plasma, 50" Vizio plasma, 42" Sceptre LCD, 52" Philips LCD, 50" Panasonic Plasma, and 42" Philips Plasma to this date. Best TV I've had was 52" Philips LCD so far.
I just can't trust anyone claiming to have the best TV in his life when in fact he busted his butt on black friday to buy a haier brand for $499.

Never heard of 'Haier'? It is one of the biggest electric appliance manufacturers in the world, if not the biggest. Probably 20% of today's refrigerators selling in the world are manufactured by Hai'er. Their Flat Screen TV has been in market almost since day 1 it was introduced, but hasn't been very much recognized. The core business of the company is refrigerator, air conditioner, washer, majority in home appliance. Can any one tell the manufacturer of 'Corion Digital' TV? ... maybe we can find who is the real maker.
Flat planel LCDs are headed south in pricing - rapidly. Lot of capacity has been added and there will be a huge glut soon ( think DRAM). Wait till BF !!!!!

Haier is a big manufacturer of Refrigirator and washer/Dryer. They are also one of the few all in one electric washer/dryer maker. They are new to LCD and most likely be badging other brand tv

Sounds like you've got plenty of disposable income and you're burning up the plasmas and lcd's. Not everyone is so finicky that they aren't satisfied with the first screen they get. Wireless capable TVs are sitting and waiting for the inventory of these TVs to be bought up-buy them up people so we get on to the next technology....this stupid ecomomy is slowing down progress!

"Wireless capable TVs" lol.. and this new marketing bullet does what, exactly? You realize this has an ATSC (digital) tuner which receives TV signals... wirelessly!

A friend of mine was looking for a 32" for the bedroom, but for about the same price why not get a 42". The free shipping doesn't hurt either. May buy one myself at this price. Why wait in line at 6AM on BF.
I am personally anxious to see what BF deals there will really be. IF you are patient, there are PLENTY of hot deals that do not require camping out in the cold or risk being trampled in a stampede. I plan to stay warm, stuffed and drunk on Turkey day watching football, and not get caught up in all of the marketing hype. Kind of disappointed that people here are still buying in to it.
If you are concerned with the reliability of an item such as this, buy a Squaretrade extended warranty.
Many FWers picked up 42"+ LCDs for this (and lower) over the past two years, thanks to Worstbuy HD Advantage promotions.

that's probably just the importer who puts their name on the TV. they most likely buy from a Chinese manufacturer, but who? could be a factory that already makes TVs for other major brands which if so, should have good manufacturing standards. but if not, then questionable. LCD screens are only made by a few manufacturers so that should be ok (except possible concern that a small company would not have the clout to demand the best ones; ie, zero dead pixels).

The "wireless" Plasma tv in a recent CompUSA ad sounded like a 802.11 bridge built into the base so that your gaming console could plug in the base. None of the tv signals were going through the "wireless" portion of the tv.

I've owned a 37" Westinghouse (x2) from Best Buy both DOA, a 32" from Buy dot com again DOA, and now a 32" Philips not DOA and has been over 3 months!! Not only is it the best it is the longest lived. Except for the Zenith 20 something inch that I've had for a couple years.

I found this site which talks about how Digital Lifestyles Group Inc. entered into a marketing and licensing agreement with Corion Industrial Corp., USA pursuant to which Digital will represent and market Corion and its products in North and South America back in January 2007.
Here is Corion's official FAQ page. As to how "new" the TVs are from their FAQ: "Since our LCD TV is still relatively new to the market, universal remote control manufactures have not included our brand in their code list yet. We recommend using a learning remote control for the Digital Lifestyles TV."
Also found this: Importer Link which shows that they imported computer parts from Kao Lung Tamura Electronics Co.. They were established in 1978 and their main product is LCD monitors.

See. You are mistaken. He can afford all these TVs. But doesn't have health insurance so he can't seek help from a Shrink. Perhaps he should have thought of seeing a Shrink v/s buying all those TVs.

So who's the OEM of this set? There's so much crap in this thread already, sorry if I missed it.
PS. Phillips TV's stink. They might be the only brand in history to sell more refurbs than new. Might be the only product in history to have one million PPM.
An otherwise good article, but it's irresponsible to talk about the difference between 720p and 1080p without mentioning the impact of viewing distance. 1080p will be more noticeable on a 32" set at 5' than on a 50" set at 10'.
