I am typing on this laptop as we speak. My ALDI in Burlington, NC only had 2 and I got the first one. I figured with the 90 day return I couldn't go wrong. So far I am pleased. Seems to pretty sturdy. Fast response time to wi-fi. I am running a linksys wireless-N router. I haven't tried much else, just wanted to give some info from someone who is trying it. Someone who asked earlier about bluetooth. Bluetooth is not mentioned in the manual, but there is a bluetooth function key on the keyboard. I'll let you know if I can get anything to work. All in all not bad so far. If anyone has any questions about functionality I would be happy to check it out for you. Oh, at the same time this morning, in the same strip shopping center I bought the $550 HP from big lots. It was DOA and a scroll button coming off.. Taking it back. Don't know if I will bother with another. Edisto |

Edisto Do you think it is worth the money? I went by Aldi, but didn't buy one. I didn't even get to see one. They weren't on display or anything. They just said if I wanted one to go to the cashier and pay for it and she would go in the back and get it. They said I couldn't look at it before I bought it, since they didn't have one on display and didn't want to open one up. So I just left without seeing one. |

Its one of their price cutting policies, they hardly ever put anything on "display" and if they do its usually locked in glass cabinet. You see, when large retailers put items on display they have to sale those at lesser (or zero) profit, to recover these costs they have to jack up prices on other stuff, Aldi saves money by not doing that, besides I dont think each store gets more than 5. |

So far I have been impressed. The documentation was better than I thought and the user manual looks like it was printed this month. 10/08. I think it is definitly worth a look especially since you can return it within 90 days. I haven't been in the market for a few years so I am not really sure if it is "worth it". Hope this helps. how heavy is it? I'm really considering this but I want to know how heavy this thing is and it isn't mentioned anywhere. Plus where do you pick one of this up? I can't find any phone numbers to call so that I know it will be in stock in NY or NJ. I thought I could just order it on line but apparently that is not how it is done. |

does it have capacity for a 2nd hard drive? Looks like a "no" on both GSG, but I could be missing something. If anyone finds out differently please let me know. Thanks.
As an aside I have noticed that the internal wifi "n" works better (faster, better signal) on this than my linksys "draft N" card on my old laptop.

GSG said:Is having the graphics card for $100 more then compatible laptops really worth it? It always depends on what you are looking for. To write an email or surf the web, of course it doesn't - you'll be fine with the cheap Intel graphics chips. But if you have an HDTV and would like to use the laptop to play some HDTV stuff, the HDMI connector of course rocks. I f I had the money right now, I'd install XBMC for PC and use this as a HTPC. If you like to play games, this can play some, while the cheap cards basically play nothing, but in order to play the latest and greatest you need an even better chip. |

Need some help deciding! I'm choosing between this medion and the HP dv5-1003nr. The HP isn't as powerful but has a blu-ray player and is $50 cheaper. HP is 14" and 5.8 lbs, has a HDMI output. Thoughts??? |

If I was in market for a Laptop, I would go for The Medion because 1) 2 yr wrnty (the HP is from Circuit City and usually wrnty starts the day it was sold to CC so you may not get wrnty) 2) This laptop has better specs (unless you are getting the Pxxxx processor by mistake in HP) Both have HDMI ports, this laptop also has eSATA, but if you want mobility, I would go with HP as it is smaller, is less bulky and does not have an odd size (by odd I mean the size thats not popular.. yet) But to be honest with you, at this point, you will have to be really lucky to find either laptops, so I will just suggest you go to both shops and buy what you get (you can always return what you dont like) as these things are low in supplies. |

I got the replacement battery for my old Medion right from Medion support. They were fast and not expensive (though I don't know the price, I remember thinking that it was way cheaper than the Sony battery) The laptop bag is probably not much more than basic protection, but then - that's more than most include... I was wondering if the person who purchased the laptop can post an update? Are you still happy with it or do you have a case of buyer's remorse? Anything new you found out? |

I bought a Medion laptop at Aldi in 2001 for $1500 (before the prices of laptops tumbled). Competitors wanted $2700-2800 for comparible specs. After 7 years of heavy use it still runs. It does need a new battery and they are available by calling customer service. Medion customer service is A1. I highly recommend their computers to all my friends. |
