Nice find! I am going to get a laptop for my Dad for Christmas. This should work just fine for him. He just browses the web and listens to music.
I remember stopping by a Wal-Mart last Black Friday for a bathroom break at 2AM and all the pallets were covered in black tarps, so no one knew where all the stuff was. I assume it will be like that again this year.
Thnaks for effort. Basically this is nearly identical to last years Wal-Mart BF laptops even though laptop prices have dropped significantly since then. IMO $300 for a Celeron is not that hot these days. Spend $75-$100 more and get one of the several clearance C2Ds or at least a nice dual core at several retailers like OD right now with no waiting in line on BF.

I agree with this- I'm surprised they still have retail laptops with Celeron.

Agreed. These are last year specs. Should be down to at least $250 to even make a BF-deal contender. No deal at W-mart, move along.
OK price. They offered this deal before, back in September. OOS pretty quick. I wonder: why the included microphone, but no webcam? Why bother to include only the microphone in this configuration?

If you look at the bottom of the page they also have a bunch of online specials including 2 Xbox 360 games for $30 and a DS Lite Bundle for $149. The bundle includes the DS, 2 games and an accessory starter kit. These are good today and you don't have to wait until 11/8.

I picked up the BestBuy deal- it stated XP online...it comes with Vista- I played with one in-store. Not bad for the money- Add 2GB of ram and it should be fine- NOTE: I believe it comes with 2 512 sticks.

With the economy plunging these prices are only going to get lower and lower as we get closer to xmas and retailers realize no one is buying. I say hold out...they have to move inventory one way or another.

Is it worth it to get a laptop @ WalMart on BF? I'm looking for one that serves my purpose of serving the web, some downloading and possibly hooking it up to the TV to watch videos (any specific video card I should be looking out for) I don't want to spend too much money. thx

RE: Is it worth it to get a laptop @ WalMart on BF?
Maybe, you would need to get in line, store open or not 6 hours before BF pricing starts.
good luck if you find them in the stores now....that are not supposed to be on shelves till 8am on Saturday... I'm a p/t employee and checked with our store and they said they won't be available till then.. and WalMart's policy is "no back stocking for anyone - especially employees".... we have to wait in line just like everyone else..

hey, good information on the specs. I hunted all around and could not find specs on thie model CP50-139WM, even on compaq own web site, and via google. Where did you find those specs? Thanks for posting... The Tech Terminator...
Assuming the specs from the OP are correct, they are great for the price. One of the best deals I've seen in the last few months for an entry-level laptop.
It's has the latest Intel mobile chipset w/ GMA4500MHD, 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive.
The cpu should be great for just about anything you would want to do, including playback of "full HD" thanks to the 4500MHD graphics. Even entry-level gaming should be good.
Of course, if you wanted even more speed and better batter life, you should be able to easily upgrade the cpu to something like a T5250 C2D (about $50, used, off eBay). Or you could even move up to a T8300 if you wanted to spend more $$$. Should be a simple drop-in replacement for that Celeron.
The only downside that I see is the Vista Home Basic. But that's what laptop manufacturers are shipping with their entry level laptops nowadays.
Todays celeron is not yesteryears celeron. I am wondering why Intel has not changed the names due to all the monkey hears monkey says dunning the celeron gets.

maybe because celeriter means quick i think in latin. dont quote me. im no pope or latin professor
the name celeron is akin to accelerator. sadly no one buys into such a word game
what other cool name could intel devise? hmmm. intel blitz? flash?
anyway, great deal op
if i needed a laptop bad, id buy it

Is this a good buy or not??? I don't have a clue. Thanks for your help
bball99 said: Is this a good buy or not??? I don't have a clue. Thanks for your help Yes it's a good deal. If I had seen this 1st vs BB's Gateway 6862 in Sept. I would have got this. Although I got much better specs. This WM deal is all I needed. I would have chose to save $135 incl tax. WM $322 otd vs Sept BB $457 otd.

Yes you can burn cds, as for playing games, i would not think you could play some of the newer games like crysis, or even red alert 3, but im sure WOW would play decent on it, as well as the sims games.
