This will be nice, with the current prices. I couldn't get in the other day for the laptops, hopefully tomorrow will be the day, from the comfort of home. Let's see!!
I picked up the Mini with the 25% off. Its was a hot deal at that price. For 40%, I'm thinking about returning and a repurchase. BTW, The mini is highly recommended. Very solid performer. Just gonna have to get that 6 cell battery come Janurary.

is there a way to tell for sure that your getting the live Cash Back discount? I went to HP's site through the live link for 25% back and it never at any time told me about my 25% discount.

*** BEWARE!!! ***
I got 5 laptops for my family from Lenovo when Live.com did the 30% CashBack on them. I had $1000 CashBack clear and I requested the payment. A week later MS CashBack team emails me saying my CashBack has been denied because they think I purchased for business use! I have sent 12 emails to them over the past 2 months asking HOW they came to that conclusion. They refuse to respond and completely ignore me! I have told them they were all for family use and I can prove that as we all still have them. They owe me $1000 and they are not talking!
I finally got a response from Microsoft when I emailed the CEO twice about my problem. They said they are forwarding my case to the CashBack team and I will get a reply in 1 business day... That was 4 days ago. No reply.
I am preparing to take them to court now. Lesson learned: eBayCashBack seems to work with Live.com but DONT TRUST any other retailers! Live.com will deny them if its costing them too much! I sure wish I could take part in this HP deal but I am not risking it when they already owe me $1000 and won't even talk to me about it!

You need to have an account with Live.com and about 10 minutes after you place your order you will get an email from Live.com saying you received $XX.XX from your HP purchase on mm/dd/yyyy. However the transaction will be listed as pending for 60 days before they let you know the cash is available for payment, then you can your CashBack .
I wish live.com had the reliability of FatWallet CashBack...too many people are getting screwed out of money right and left via live.com and there is no recourse, nor anyway to speak to a person at MS about it.

I got two rebates about $300 from my purchase at eBay without any problem. But I just got 5% Cash Back on my yesterday's purchase from Circuit City for the 46" Sony TV although I was promised for 20%. So, Cash Back on other sites is a hugely YMMV. If do you want take the offer, be prepared to return the item.

Forget the HP Mini 1000; the Asus 1000HA is a better deal IMO. You can get them for about $315 after live.com CashBack. Unlike the Mini, it comes with a bigger HD (160GB) *and* a 6-cell battery standard that gives 6+ hours of use. It's several ounces heavier, but easy to upgrade RAM or HD, sturdy, and great keyboard. (The Mini would weigh just about the same after adding the bigger battery, if you buy one.)
The Asus also has a faster HD (5400 rpm vs. 4200 rpm for the Mini) and 1GB RAM (vs. 512M for the Mini) which can be upgraded to 2GB for about $30 or less. (The Mini maxes out at 1GB according to HP specs.)

What do you expect when you buy 5 laptops? Their terms clearly state that it is only valid when buying for personal use...and not business and resale.

this one's kinda your fault for buying 5 laptops from the same retailer.

I hope they keep the instant rebate but for some reason I think that will disappear. So anyone come up with a configuration that will be too good to pass up?
There is no deal here...ms Will screw you out of this payment- or at least try to. They are dishonest and totally corrupting any reason they had for people to use live CashBack by not paying and remaining uncontactable.
Do I pull the trigger, or do I wait until next year to get the Ubuntu 6-cell version? So many difficult choices?

The Mini does have a 10.2" screen option too. But yeah, when you get a Mini with the 10.2" screen and smaller HD, the price is way more than the Asus. So yeah, the Asus is a MUCH better deal at that point! The 10.2" screen is much better than the 8.9" one. The battery life is really awesome in real life. I'm using my Asus as my 100% business computer, and it is handy and fast (word processing, websurfing, etc.)

How does 5 laptops proove that I am buying for business use? This is the same question I keep asking MS with no response. It was a good deal so I got everyone's Christmas gift early. As I said, I can PROOVE this! Both my sisters, my mom, my dad and me all are currently using these laptops right now! These are NOT business purchases (tho I do use mine for business and personal use).
If you buy a laptop, make sure you don't get Vista Business or I guess that would be grounds to cancel also right? I mean any laptop purchase could be considered a business purchase as they will probably be used at home and at work sometimes. I am just saying, the terms are very vague. MS can apparently decide for themselves who they want to deny and are not required to have ANY evidence to support their claim. I have PROOF, they don't, but they couldn't care less. BEWARE! I am certainly not risking it just to boost MS/HP stock for a few months.

thanks for the heads up about Circuit City, mine is 5% as well. I'll have to contact MSN and tell them it was 20%, if they'll listen.

if you buy 5 laptops, it's most likely not for personal use. if i were MS, i would assume that it's for business use or exploit.

just as the Lenovo person has stated I too have had problems with large transactions that were made from live.com (but through eBay). All were legit....they will give all kinds of excuses. They first asked shipping evidence to see if the items were really shipped from the the seller and of course he had it. After he provided it, they said that I purchased goods for commercial purposes, held onto the money for about 45 DAYS (i'm not kidding here) and then gave it back. Part of the money is still not in my possession and after about 50 days.....I do not have the things i bought on eBay. All I can say is beware....if you scheme up some things msn will give every retarded reason to deny your rebate.
You need to be careful of the MSN live search Cash Back. It is possible that you won't actually get the money. I thought I was the only person with this kind of experience, but apparently I am not.
I bought 2 laptops and 2 GPS from eBay, and I earned more than $700 Cash Back, and I requested to send it to my Paypal account. They refused and told me that I violated a eBay or Paypal rule, but didn't tell me the specific reason. After some "research", they said it was Paypal who canceled the payment. I called Paypal several times, even talked with their marketing department and account specialist, and they said there is nothing wrong with my Paypal account, and there is no record of any attempt from MSN to send money to my account.
Now the money is in pending status and I can't send it to my bank account. It has been 2 months and I am still stuck with this issue. The following is the latest response I got from them. toothpick5: do you know how we can take them to court?
------------------- Hi XXX,
Sorry for the inconvenience with your CashBack account. I am unable to answer the question. If you were denied your CashBack then you need keep replying to the email you received and explain your situation. If you do not have the email you can send your information to cashteam@microsoft.com. They are also associated with our legal team. I will send this to our research team but I am not sure they will be able to help you. Again sorry for the inconvenience with your CashBack account

I would like to find someone, who actually got CB from MS through HP with EPP/APP,
since my search of the slickdeals site and FW site trying to find at least one person, who actually got cache back from MS from HP's privies deals was fruitless. I have found quite a few, with CB pending though, but as far as I realized, it does not mean much, since they can refuse to pay and not much one can do to reverse it. They can use a discount clause as the excuse. I have ordered the laptop G70t by clicking on live CB 25% off and then logging in into epp, and I got pending email of $131 from MS CB. I have called HP and talked to customer service rep and his supervisor, they have told me that one can combine epp with CB, but they also added, that MS pays the CB and if I would not be paid I would have to contact MS Live. As it stands, I am 98% sure that CB will be denied for orders with EPP/APP and I am leaning towards the return until I can find someone with positive experience.
