If, and I realize it's a big IF, the instant rebates still are in effect, does the 40% come off of the base price, or price after instant rebates? Thanks. EDIT: NM! Upon reflection this is a stupid question. I just realized since we are dealing w/ Live CB, The CB is off of what you actually spend. Whoops. |

I bought 2 laptops and 2 GPS. Does that seem like for business or resale? It's not the number of items in the purchase, it's the total price!!! If you earn a lot of CB, they will refuse to pay you!!! afobisme said:toothpick5 said:coolash said:toothpick5 said:*** BEWARE!!! ***
I got 5 laptops for my family from Lenovo when Live.com did the 30% CashBack on them. I had $1000 CashBack clear and I requested the payment. A week later MS CashBack team emails me saying my CashBack has been denied because they think I purchased for business use! I have sent 12 emails to them over the past 2 months asking HOW they came to that conclusion. They refuse to respond and completely ignore me! I have told them they were all for family use and I can prove that as we all still have them. They owe me $1000 and they are not talking!
I finally got a response from Microsoft when I emailed the CEO twice about my problem. They said they are forwarding my case to the CashBack team and I will get a reply in 1 business day... That was 4 days ago. No reply.
I am preparing to take them to court now. Lesson learned: eBay CashBack seems to work with Live.com but DONT TRUST any other retailers! Live.com will deny them if its costing them too much! I sure wish I could take part in this HP deal but I am not risking it when they already owe me $1000 and won't even talk to me about it!
What do you expect when you buy 5 laptops? Their terms clearly state that it is only valid when buying for personal use...and not business and resale.
How does 5 laptops proove that I am buying for business use? This is the same question I keep asking MS with no response. It was a good deal so I got everyone's Christmas gift early. As I said, I can PROOVE this! Both my sisters, my mom, my dad and me all are currently using these laptops right now! These are NOT business purchases (tho I do use mine for business and personal use).
If you buy a laptop, make sure you don't get Vista Business or I guess that would be grounds to cancel also right? I mean any laptop purchase could be considered a business purchase as they will probably be used at home and at work sometimes. I am just saying, the terms are very vague. MS can apparently decide for themselves who they want to deny and are not required to have ANY evidence to support their claim. I have PROOF, they don't, but they couldn't care less. BEWARE! I am certainly not risking it just to boost MS/HP stock for a few months.
if you buy 5 laptops, it's most likely not for personal use. if i were MS, i would assume that it's for business use or exploit. |

rigor said:call up asus and msi tomorrow. then call HP. see which one has the shortest wait time for support.
I think you know the answer already Not sure I understand. My Asus has been used daily for almost 2 months now, and is rock-solid. So support isn't even an issue. But feel free to spend way more for an inferior machine with less memory, smaller/slower HD, and far less battery life. Whatever. I buy a laptop and use it. I don't need handholding of constant support from the manufacturer. WinXP and the hardware are quite stable. |

drmoze said:Forget the HP Mini 1000; the Asus 1000HA is a better deal IMO. You can get them for about $315 after live.com CashBack. Unlike the Mini, it comes with a bigger HD (160GB) *and* a 6-cell battery standard that gives 6+ hours of use. It's several ounces heavier, but easy to upgrade RAM or HD, sturdy, and great keyboard. (The Mini would weigh just about the same after adding the bigger battery, if you buy one.)
The Asus also has a faster HD (5400 rpm vs. 4200 rpm for the Mini) and 1GB RAM (vs. 512M for the Mini) which can be upgraded to 2GB for about $30 or less. (The Mini maxes out at 1GB according to HP specs.) Recently purchased the MSI Wind u100-286my on the bay with CB. Came to $337.xx It also has wireless N and bluetooth. When I configured the HP mini after the discount it came to $315 and no wireless N available. Cheapest wireless N dongle on Newegg is Roseville RXN-N1 for 24.99. The wind also has a six cell battery vs. HP mini 3 cell. In a shootout the Winds battery lasted 1/2 hour longer than the Asus. You'll probably only get 2 1/2 hours out of the 3 cell. BTW, HP customer service has to be fast. Two of HP laptops that I own have been sent out for service three times. The MSI products that I've owned have never suffered any failures. |

This deal is nutty as to timing. The deal does not even go into effect until 10:00 AM ET. On BF, that's the time I'm usually piling back into bed after having been up all night snagging deals. The folks out in the provinces need to realize 75% of the USA population is on either ET or on CT. Deals timed for PT are a snooze here in the real world. This is not even serious. |
