I have some of each. For me it comes down to scents.

For example, I prefer lighter scents from Illuminations, like lavendar. I think there was a pear one at one time that I was able to give to someone who does not do well with strong scents. I also liked the line they had that had scents like tranquility?, serenity?(can't remember the names). They also had some interesting gift packs with 4 or 8 scents in them. I did not like the Illuminations candles that were not in jars--they did not seem to burn down to the last one inch too well.

As for Yankee, I really like their Christmas time candles, like Home for the Holidays, Christmas Eve, Balsam and Cedar. The candles burn well and I like the jars. I can't recall being frustrated with the burn through of a Yankee Candle in a jar.

Illuminations closed their store in my area so I no longer know how they compare on price--I am still using up my going out of business stockpile. My impression is that Illuminations is more expensive unless you can catch a good sale.
