any catches that you have to sign up for 2 years.....?

The catch is that Dreamhost is a lousy place to do business with. Horrible hosting service, horrible customer service. Don't waste your time.

anyone remember cyberwings?
I think that what it was called.

I highly recommend http://www.neonhost.com/ if you have a business in the New York City.

How are these guys affiliated with DreamHost?

I think that the OP's initial posting is confusing to the reading impaired. All the stuff about Dreamhost needs to just be deleted out of the first post.

The price is good. I mean, it's a freaking dolla'. My Web host expired at the end of January and there were no hot deals to be found. I went with a $20/year deal through Netfirms. I've been with Surpass hosting before (my sites are personal/family-type sites), and I had no problems with them. It's certainly worth $1 for 500GB and unlimited bandwidth!

CEO-Shawn has nearly completed the move to the new secret data center (w/advanced biometric security), and those who have remained loyal to him will be given the opportunity to partake of tripled I5 accounts at 67% off the regular price, during a special promotion at channel #ex-con , between the hours of 3am and 4:30am EDT, on February 29, 2009.

how's their customer service? Email only or can I talk to a live person? I used to use 1and1 but left because these guys are useless and can never get someone to talk to. They were great a few years back. I began using them after their initial 3 years free promotion.

I had got 1y hosting in 2008 @ http://www.surpasshosting.com/content/onelove2008/
they will reply it ASAP afteryou post your questions on https://client.surpasshosting.com/mb4/

but surpasshosting is asmaller company than dreamhost,so i think it will be better you pay by paypal ,NOT CC

an d last you can get a backup hosting or mirror site of 500GB Disk Space Unmetered Bandwidth for only $1,that`s great, cheers )

Link will be active at 12:00AM EST

I've been with them for 3 years and other than a couple of slight hiccups in the first year, I have had ZERO problems with them. Anytime I've had problems, they are lightning quick in resolving them. You can talk to a live person or use the 'chat' system which is actually pretty nice (and you can go back and reference them if need be).

I run a moderate traffic national car club site on this exact plan.

It seems to just give me the first month free. It says $72 will be billed at the beginning of next month.

Someone didn't read the T&C:
8) You will notice that your order results in $0.00 invoice. This is normal. After you place the order we will use a script to process your order and adjust the invoice to the $1.00 due amount. You will be emailed after this occurs with instruction to login and make payment towards the adjusted invoice. After you have made payment, and after we have reviewed the order manually, your new account will be activated and you will receive the Welcome email with all account details.

In for a buck - thanks, OP!

Real men don't read instructions.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Just in case, I charged it to a Norton rebate prepaid card with about $2 left on it. Ya never know.

IANALBIPOOTI (I am not a lawyer, but I play one on the Internet)

Paid via PayPal, waiting for the review and payment link.

Hmmm -- I'm getting:

The precondition on the request for the URL /mb4/order/checkout.php evaluated to false.

When I try to check out.

I couldn't sign up using Firefox. It kept asking me to enter an existing domain name, then deciding that what I was entering was invalid.

Worked just fine with Internet Explorer.

If any other Firefox users are unable to sign up, try firing up the old MS browser and doing it that way.

Wouldn't work on Mac Firefox, either. Had to use Safari.

That certainly doesn't bode well for a freaking hosting company.

I had no problem - Firefox 3.0.6/Windows

Yeah. What's that all about? Did they forget to change something? I'm taking the plunge anyway. I guess I can always cancel.

"* $72.00 will be due on the next renewal date: 03/01/2009"

when ordering for another domain, show me :"You may now pay with PayPal by following the link below:" but no link below, what`s wrong? (((

I'm also getting the March 1 2009 garbage, so I replaced my CC info with a debit card with a 0 balance just in case. They're asking for a $1 payment, so unless they fix their problem, they ain't getting it.

Looks like they had this "special" in 2008 too..

I was using dreamhost service. I prepaid 1 year for $99. But, I only stayed with them for 4 months then I moved out all my customer's account to GoDaddy. First, they don't have after business hours and weekend support. Second, people their didn't know what they are doing. Third, it is a kids owned company. For personal use, $1 is a steal if you can afford web site down without reason and no email during the off business hours some time. For serious business use, you better stay away. Paid little more and you will get a "Peace of Mind".

where is the place with "peace of mind" you speak of here?

OK. The invoice I received has the correct invoice date:

"Your next renewal date will be Feb 1, 2010. If you do not wish to renew on this date, please be sure to contact us 5 days before renewal per our TOS: http://www.surpasshosting.com/content/policies.php"

I just signed up at a free web hosting site called T35. Their free service puts a small add banner at the bottom of the screen. I don't know how good they are, but they have been around for 10 years.

What? Can you repeat that? Having a hard time understanding you....can you hear me now?

system give me a account can not login, may be false propaganda

It says my password is incorrect. I've tried resetting it and it does not accept the new one either. Looks like someone screwed up.
