you better off with 50 inch plasma...it will kick its butt on image and contrast and will be cheaper.
Plasma still rules on contrast and brightness.
and NO dead pixels...note that unless you but it at costco..if you get dead pixels...they wont replace unless it more than a few...to me..one dead pixel...is like a bug on my tv.

Just a warning that a few of the lowest end Sharp models are not good. I would get a 52" Vizio instead. No Sceptre.

Where can you get a Vizio 52" LCD forthat kind of Money? Also, Plasma better contrast Ratio? I had understood the oposite from friends feedback... I have little time do to my own research so I rely a lot on friends feedback..
Vizio makes a 50" plasma for $1200 @ Costco and a 55" LCD for $1500-ish @ Costco...so no, you can't get a Vizio 52" to answer a previous poster's question.
This is a pretty insane deal on that LCD.

Not really deal of the year. There're reports of people getting these Sharp AQUOS LC52D82U for under $900 online when Sears was clearing out inventory.
If it is indeed the LC-52D82U it does not look like it has 120 Hz. See full details from the manual in the link above.
Edit: I saw some conflicting information in another page on the sharpusa website. So not completely sure about the 120hz.

I own LC52D82U and it is indeed 120 Hz, it's a thicker model not one of the newer thin ones, I got mine at one of the Half off sales and paid $1900 on 9/17/07 and counted myself luck to get it for that then. At $1k it's a steal!
Be aware that this is more than likely refurbish as its very common that there electronics are refurbed.I don't think I've ever seen a new piece of major electronics in my Big lots.

I was thinking the same about "around 7AM" and the lack of details of the TV.

For all the doubting Thomases out there, I received the same email. So exactly who here is doubting the deal? Anyone who subscribes to Big lots email received the deal email hours ago. The only question being discussed is the Sharp model which makes or breaks the deal. So far are you the only implying a specific Sharp model. Big Lots' admin refuted and then deleted the thread on their fourm site implying this might be the LC-52D82U from an "official" Big lots rep so until tomorrow around 7:00 no one will really know.

Its probably new. They always sell large "new" electronics straight off their website and never bother to ship them to the stores.

You are right. I am just going to ignore Freakazoid84 and sooperninja.

Plasma has better contrast than LCD. That's a fact.

2nd that. There are arguments to be made for both, and LCDs have been getting much better, but contrast is not an area of dispute. Plasmas are king for contrast.

Yes, but that has to do with margins, not whether or not you will like a Plamsa TV. Just because they can't make money selling one doesnt mean that you wouldnt want one.

jimates said: ggyy22 said: can somebosy recommend a cable/adapter to hook up the laptop(VGA) to the tv? thanksThe manual does not show a D-Sub input. That is one reason I did not buy one. You would need a computer with hdmi, or dvi with an adapter, to connect to a computer.
Or D-sub with an adaptor. It's not like it's difficult to do dvi with an HDMI adaptor. Most video cards nowadays are DVI only anyway. My TV has D-sub and no DVI, I still do DVI to HDMI.
