My brother has this system and it is awesome! I was just waiting for the best price. I couldn't afford to wait any longer. It was costing me a phone bill every month I waited. I am very fortunate to know for a fact how awesome this system is. For those of you who don't know anyone with this system yet, definately read the reviews!!!
Not sure about the Hannity political remark. I am all about saving money. That's why I am on here. Thought I would share a great deal.
I ordered it from Costco for $219 and it took 2 weeks for delivery. It was up and running after 5 minutes setting. I just connected it my wired rounter and works like a champ. I also order porting number with $40 fee. If this company is still in business in the next 5 months, it will be even. Good bye land line!

If this company continues to survive, even for 5 months, it's a great deal when considering phone costs.
Me? I am piggy backing on my GF's cell phone account @ $15 + my mom =$15 and have a MagicJack. The MJ is definitely sketchy service at best, but it serves our needs!

http://www.Amazon.com/ooma-Phone-System-Monthly-Service/product-... It seems that customer support is worse than bad - as in none! But the one review that got me is that the "unlimited" plan is actually limited to 3,000 minutes per month. That's only about an hour and a half a day - that ain't gonna cut it in my house. Thanks OP for the post, but I'll pass.

From the FAQ on ooma.com:
5. Is there a maximum amount of minutes per month?
Like all other "unlimited services" such as cell phone data plans and other VoIP services, we do have a limit of 3000 minutes per month (for outbound calling) that we can enforce on a case by case basis in the event that a subscriber is clearly abusing the service (i.e. call centers, commercial purposes, etc.). We have never terminated a customer that has used the service for residential purposes.
remember that you will need a 384kbps upstream connection for Ooma to work without problems. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago but I only have RR lite which is only 128kbps upstream. I tested it with my sister for about 20 min. It was fine according to her for first 15 min but the last 5 min was very choppy
i just got the ooma and so far my experience with their customer service has been good. before you are a customer, you can only email them via the form on their website. I did that before I bought the ooma and had questions. i got a response within a day or two I think. after i was satisfied with their responses to my questions, I bought it via costco.com - yes, it's more expensive ($219 + tax) than on Amazon ($199 + no tax), but it's a lot easier to return if it doesn't work well. after I got it, I had some more questions for them and some problems setting up my scout so I called their 800 number. on a saturday morning, the wait til was less than 5 minutes and the rep was helpful. i know there were issues with response time for customer service in the past (as I read on forums) but so far so good for me.
my suggestion if you have concerns about the 3000 minutes not being enough for your family is to contact via their web form and ask them whether the ooma will work in your situation. and if they can alleviate your concerns, give them a shot - buying from costco is an extra insurance policy.

You must think it's a good system since you tried to post it after I did.
I've been an Ooma customer for about a month now and have been very happy. Just cancelled my Vonage line yesterday. The sound quality is considerably better than it was for me with Vonage.

I just like the concept of the device but I just want to spread the word since I dont want them to go belly up, haha
I asked this in the other ooma thread but couldn't find the answer..
If I cancel my landline and call 911 through a landline telephone, will the call still go through, or am I required to use the ooma (E-911) for that?
(Please no debates on landline 911 vs. E-911)
I'd like to get this for my parents because they pay over $30 a month just for phone service, and it doesn't even include caller ID. I want to make sure they'd be ok in case of an emergency though.

I placed my order yesterday through Costco. There is a $45 difference after tax between these two so I could order from Amazon...

Oh by the way, I was able to email BESTSELLER since I bought from him 2 weeks ago and he was very kind and let me get a $10 refund for the price difference. I just tried for it for the heck of it but he was nice enough to honor it.
saagar said: Got burned by Sunrocket. Got burned by Sunrocket too. But now when I am looking back, it is actually a good thing.
If Sunrocket were still around, I would probably still be happily paying their low monthly fee. But I am using Sunrocket's Gizmo box and enjoying free phone service (Gizmo Project + Grand Central) now.

What's the difference between ooma and MJ ?
I have MJ now, but don't use it due to low volume, echos, etc...
What makes ooma different ?
Is it the hardware or just different internet servers/networks ?
I'd say try your MagicJack on a different computer. I've used the MJ as my primary voip phone for over a year but have recently purchased the ooma. With ooma I don't have to have a computer on all the time. ooma is working fine except for their poor customer service, won't answer my emails requesting status on the porting of my old time phone number. My MJ works fine on a Dell 710m laptop and a Dell server. In fact I just faxed using the MJ that went through fine but didn't work using the ooma line.
Like the other guy I also have 2 old Sunrocket ATA's or whatever they are called set up with (Gizmo Project + Grand Central). He mentions free calling but as far as I can tell only free for incoming. It will allow free outgoing on 888, 877, etc. but not 800 numbers.

Contact ooma customer service, I'm sure they can tell you.

There were about $25-$30 differene so it would be a little easier to decide.
I bought a Panasonic Globarange phone a few months ago, and have been a happy user since. They give a free local number too (in US, UK, and many countries). Free incoming calls too! The setup was easy too: you just plug it in, and it works! It also has two lines, 1 VOIP, and 1 regular line. And the best part is, they go for like $40 now at Amazon. I sent one to my friend overseas, and now she has an US number too, and I get to call her anytime for free. Although they only give toll-free out-going call for free, I think the globarange phone is a much better deal if you just need a backup VOIP phone at home. (Should I make a new post for this?)

I decided to try out their customer service via phone call (888-711-6662). It's 2:30pm EST on Friday the 27th, 2009............. I'm looking at my cell phone minutes on how long it even takes a person to pick up the phone and it's been over 20 minutes. Do I want to waste more of my cell phone minutes, so I'm just hanging up. 20 minutes is just too long personally, so as others have mentioned their customer service is bad.
I'm not trying to be negative, but if I'm going to fork over 200 dollars I want to make sure it's going to last. If the website said get only 5 months or 1 year and then your service is shut off, nobody would buy it and I don't think it's going to last for the long term.
Their business model seems like a Ponzi scheme: Where does the money come from, since it's not monthly? Only new customers bring in money, which eventually the new customers are going to dry up and then no money coming in except for the few people who call international, which can probably find cheaper rates with calling cards or other means. Other VOIP services have free international calls to the country of their choice. The bottom line is that I cannot see any way for this company to last.
I would feel more comfortable if they charged even 10 dollars a year or something, because at least some money comes in from existing customers.
MagicJack charges 20 dollars a year and even though you have to use it through a computer, it's still a better business model. I don't own MagicJack, but decided to call their customer service, which was hard to find their phone number, since they prefer that you use email or livechat through the web. Well the phone number I found I called them and within 1 minute a live person picked up the phone.
I was really interested in ooma, but it's a really bad business plan and I can't see it lasting, unless somebody can explain how they are going to last?
