Links don't seem to be working for some reason....still, this isn't such a great deal.
Good deal for someone looking for a cheap, high quality big screen. Green for you OP
quote from sound and vision: If you’ve been reading Sound & Vision, you may have noticed that Texas Instruments’ DLP display technology has been getting a lot of attention in S&V. That’s because of a new “wobulating,” or “Smooth Picture” — TI’s own term for the process — DLP chip that achieves an effective 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution using only 960 x 1,080 “micromirrors.” (For more on this technology, see “Pixel Magic: How TI Puts the 1080p in DLP”.) But before 1080p DLP started to make waves, TVs with a wobulating 720p DLP chip were first introduced back in summer 2004. Though it has lower resolution than its new big brother, this chip still offers wobulation’s key advantage — a smooth picture free of visible pixel structure. And while you’re at it, throw in lower cost vs. a “discrete” 720p DLP chip, thanks to the reduced mirror count.
shipping will kill the deal. i'd buy used plasma tv. lol

Don't forget to add the cost of a time machine to Strike 3 to get that Costco deal that ended a month ago
Strike 1: Rear projection No, Rear Direct Light Projection. Completely different technology and the same technology used in high end movie theaters.
only 720p Please don't start this argument. If the consumer does their homework, they probably won't care with a TV of this size. If the do care, then they won't buy it or they will take it into consideration with the low price.
Strike 2: Refurbished Yep, with a 3 month warranty from RCA. If it doesn't break in the first 3 months, it probably won't.
Strike 3: price + shipping Price plus shipping for me is $598.
almost as much as a new 1080p 42" LCD Vizio at costco Please don't compare the price of a Chevy Chevette to a Mercedes or a Ford F450. Lets keep our apples with our apples, LCDs with LCDs, and Plasmas with Plasmas.
IMHO, with these older model DLPs, the lamp needs replaced on a regular basis, adding around $100 per year (give or take) to operational costs. That is the only strike to this deal.
With this particular set, the cost of bulbs AVERAGES out to about $45 per year based on useage of 8 hours per day, with the average bulb life (some lasting much longer) being 5000 hours. RCA significantly improved bulb temp and ventilation in this model and newer models leading to longer bulb life than the competitors DLP televisions.
BTW, price is based on bulbs selling on eBay for less than $80 with free shipping.
As ironbyron stated above, Samsungs LED DLP light engine is a lifetime setup. Nothing to replace, ever.

Depends on your application. If you want a large decent tv to stick in the basement when you have people over... used 10-20 hours max a month.. then its a great deal.

If you want a television that's larger than 55 inches, and get it for less than $2,000 the only option you have is DLP. For this RCA, the lamp is actually $249, which is pretty steep since you can pickup some Sony, Panasonic, and Samsung lamps for as long as $100.
Also, I don't get why people knock 720p so much. Unless you have Blu-ray, 1080p won't do you much good.
If anyone live near a tger direct (CompUSA) outlet store they have a ton of DLP project TV in the store. I was by the one in Raleigh yesterday and they had a 65in Mitsubishi- $899, 67in Samsung- $899, 60in Mitsubishi $799 and a 72in Panosonic for $1299. I think I saw about 3 being carried out while I was in there for 30 min. They also had alot of floor model markdowns on Plasma and LCD sets.
