Beware! We bought these when they were on sale at Big Lots. We love them, but they have killed 2 IPODs. When we put the Ipod in it made them go blank. Both of them had hard drive problems and had to be replaced. I called Philips and they sent replacement DVD players, but I am scared to put my Ipod in there.

Biglot had it for $50, might not be the same model.
I don't think it is the cause of your hard drive problems. I had no problem with it on my last trip, using for about 10Hrs total.
