I mailed mine on 5/7/09 and haven't gotten anything from them yet...no rebate check or denial postcard.

I don't think you need original receipt for product's warranty

I think this is more of the rebate house than rebates in general. This rebate house has had issues mentioned occasionally on google for a while (I just never expected they'd be tightfisted abour a $4 rebate though) oh well. It happens

I called in 3 times. And each time I was told to wait for another 10 days. This company or rebate center is bad, although the operator sounds nice. I'm going to contact Staples and then BBB if I still don't get it in 2 weeks.

Email #1 to Staples got me "we're sorry you had a problem" canned email below.
I replied to the canned email, "So who is going to pay this rebate?"
Today I got, "Sorry you're having a problem w/ our website. It looks like you're using Firefox. It would be better if you used IE" and telling me how to delete cookies in FF to make it more compatible w/ Staples.com. What???
Do they even read these things?
Calling Staples 800# next. I know the store will pay the $3.99 but the issue is the other 2 submitted by family members

You are lucky, the manager at my local store would never pay out the rebate. I'm lucky I can use the coupons Staples actually sends me. I usually have to wait through 5 minutes of scrutiny before he allows them. And yes, he usually is near the registers looking over the cashiers shoulders.

Staples has a procedure for the store to pay problematic rebates. I've received completely bogus denials and when I show the proof of legit purchase and compliance w/ terms of rebate they input the information on store computer. Check shows up really quickly.

Problem is this is not a Staples rebate...

doesn't matter. They've covered Symantec (Parago) and most recently the Family Tree software rebate as well. For the latter, they promoted it as FAR w/ sign on the shelf. Price $9.90 and rebate $10. I submitted and it was denied because rebate exceeded purchase price. Showed everything to store mgr and he requested $10 rebate for me. I got it 2 weeks later.

this is the latest email I received from Staples re: Ghiradelli rebate:

Horrible rebate center, and horrible service.

Guess what, I talked to a CS named Virginia today. All she said was "I can't tell you when & why blah blah".

After I mentioned that 6-8 weeks. She said: it says you SHOULD receive it in 6-8 weeks. It doesn't mean we will be able to send it to you in 6-8 weeks.
I was like: what?

When I asked for a manager. She told me all the managers are in the meeting. This is not the first time I was told so. And this is my 4th phone call.

I asked her to grab a manager from a meeting, since I called 4 times already, and there is a long delay.
She quickly said: no, impossible.

I calmly asked her " Compared to the manager's meeting, does a customer's complaint mean nothing?"
Guess what she said. Without doubt, she replied: "Yes, I think so".

Wow, I was really astonished. I then told her I am going to quote her, and send a complaint to BBB. And this Virginia didn't care. She said: ok, go ahead.

Called Staples rebate center. They couldn't help either. I will wait for another week, and then file BBB. Hope I can get my check soon.

I have contacted Ghirardelli directly because I suspect they hired "brandmovers" to move their product off the shelves of stores. I did a search for the luxe chocolate rebate and found out that Staples wasn't the only store that had this rebate promotion. It's up to them but I will either be getting $3.99 Cash Back or $4 of product from the company.

"I am having difficulty claiming a rebate on Ghirardelli Luxe chocolate that I bought on 5/29/09. Each time I call 888-463-4933 for a status, there is an answering machine and no one returns messages. Or I talk to Virgina and she is unhelpful and rude. It's only $3.99 but I don't like the fact that I was suckered into buying this product because of the rebate. This rebate has nothing to do with Staples and the company you hired is called Brandmovers. I know I am not the only person who has bought this product because of the rebate. The rudeness and the refusal to pay the rebate is unwarranted. Perhaps you can call this rebate company you hired to process and move the product and ask them to start cooperating and paying rebates. I kept a photocopy of all materials submitted and I will not stop until I get my rebate. Thank you."

Anyone in the GA area that can contact their local news station? There must be a station out there that investigates mass ripoffs. They can go to the headquarters and knock on their door.

dealsearch said:I got a postcard saying I did not include UPC, but I knew I did. I tried to call that 888 numbers many times today, but only got the machine. They told me to resubmit the missing UPC, but I only have the copy, original has been sent to them. Yes, this is a cheap lesson, will never do rebate like this one, too much hassel and time for 4 bucks.
Same situation for me, too. I don't care if it's $4 or $400, I will get my rebate.

If anyone gets an update or some kind of progress on this issue, please post.
