Edit: My intention of posting this thread, originally on the free stuff forum, was neither to start a flame-war between the OS factions nor to praise/berate Microsoft. I just want to announce the availability of highly coveted piece of beta (??) software. I am a UNIX guy at heart but I also am a realist to understand that, despite what my preferences are, the other people of this world is using and are going to to use the Redmond's finest piece of work in droves, throughout my lifetime. It is best to adapt by knowing it, rather than total rejection due to what it might represent. If you have any issues with the OS, I am sure there are technical forums where these issues are more openly discussed. But I believe FW is neither place nor the platform for those discussions. If you like the deal, great. Enjoy ! If not, move on. Life is too short to to waste on mundane things like which OS is better.

Here%u2019s what you can do to bypass the check for pre-release upgrade IF YOU REALLY REALLY NEED TO:
Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD. Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build). Browse to the sources directory. Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad. Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000 (pictured below). Save the file in place with the same name. Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed.

i have been runnign the beta for over 6 months now on an OLD machine and it runs lightning fast and have not had any problems. great OS if you have an extra machine you should try it!
It really expires in march when you pay attention to Microsoft's BS tactics:
Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

i guess it is pretty BS that I only get a free OS for almost a year, not over a year.
(/Sarcasm btw)

MS (or any other company) is not going to give out unlimited free copies of a virtually complete, fully functional release candidate for their newest OS. How's that BS?
Some of us may also want this: LINK Certain Intel processors need not apply, . LINK
Of course, I could be more specific but I am busy watching Da Vinci Code right now. What a bunch of crap. Another propaganda piece promoting the (Perfect) Parasite(s).

Oh, how terrible that Microsoft (oh wait, I mean Micro$oft lolololol) wants you to actually purchase their product.

why the red...
i understand microsoft is protecting their software...they can fine people or hold them accountable if they keep using the OS after the dateline..but interfering with the computer is clearly a violation or privacy and many other basic rights...
if they manage to shut down the system every 2 hours...microsoft is doing other untold things in the system..
