This deal makes me simultaneously sad & relieved that K.K.'s moved out of Houston a few years ago. THose things were incredible when the "hot" light was on.

Yeah...I used to be an serious Hot Now addict but quit when they started using the healthier oil to fry them in a couple of years ago. It changed the taste. I would stop by there about once a month but now I haven't had any in about 18 months.
I assume they are still using the healthier oil to fry them in?
These things taste gross. KK donuts are nasty. They taste like someone glazed grease and called it a donut.

About 10 years ago I had a KK someone brought to work. It was narsty. The oil tasted burned or something. I had previously had gazzilions of krispy kremes, I don't know what was wrong with that one. Only have had a few since then and one of them sort of tasted like that bad one.

Yeah, now it tastes like regular donuts, overly sweet. I don't even know why I liked it several years ago.
your local cardiologist (and their pocketbook) also thank you!

there is a kk race in nc... i think it's run two miles to kk, eat 12 donuts, run two miles back....avoid the vomit.
did a little more looking...."
The Krispy Kreme Challenge is an annual, student-operated race in Raleigh, North Carolina benefiting the NC Children's Hospital. Beginning in 2004 with a mere 12 participants, the race has grown exponentially to a whopping 3,000 runners in the 2008 race and has rapidl y become one of NC State University's newest traditions.
Beginning at the NC State Belltower, each runner runs 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme store located on Peace St. in Raleigh. After downing a full dozen of the famous Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the runner must run the two miles back. All in one hour. "
Krispy Kreme got run out of Houston about two years ago. I don't remember why. I thought the donuts were okay but over-rated. If they were still here I'd spring for a dozen on this deal.

Most likely the stores either weren't profitable or the franchise holder didn't have enough capital to sustain them.

Many around Ohio went under when everyone was into the Atkins craze. Most the Atkins followers I know are back to being fat, and there are fewer donut shops. Dammit.
