This year's program offers rebates of up to $229 on the full line of iPods when purchased with a qualifying new Apple computer, which includes all Macs except the Mac mini.
Both the Mac and iPod must be purchased at the same time on the same receipt, and purchases must be made either directly from Apple or at an Apple Authorized Campus Store. This year's program runs through September 8th, 2009.
Make sure you buy with your educational discount, as it says below:
"* Buy a qualifying Mac and iPod with your Apple education discount from May 27, 2009, through September 8, 2009, and receive an online rebate up to $229, except where otherwise required by state law. Terms and conditions apply. Visit www.apple.com/backtoschool for full details. Not all Apple products qualify for education pricing."
I don't know if/how apple verifies any of this, just thought I'd toss this out there.
Green because free stuff is fun.

They had this promotion last year, as well. They had the fastest rebate I've ever received. I had the check reimbursing me for the Ipod touch in under a week.
As for the educational discount, they don't verify at all IIRC. I work at a University, so I do get the discount. I think all you need is to enter a university or HS name.

I really like the Back to school promo this year. Up to $200 off of their Macbook Pros, free printer and iPod Touch.

Incorrect! They do verify it but it is random (they verified me after the purchase). So, you'd better have a back up plan just in case.

I saw that Microcenter also has a $150 rebate on the Macbook. They are an authorized dealer so according to the fine print the rebate for Apple should apply. Does the Apple promo require an original receipt or just a copy? That way you could get the Macbook for $850 ($999 minus 150 Microcenter Rebate) then get $229 off the Ipod touch and sell it effectively making the whole thing $650-700?

Read the terms. The Apple promotion applies only if you buy at the Apple Store (online education store, apple retail, or campus bookstore)

They've had this deal every year for at least half a decade now. This is when I always buy a computer. I got two iBooks with free iPods back in the day and free printers and bought a Macbook this past year with free iPod touch and printer. I sold the iPod and printer and that lowered the price of the laptop for me.
Hint: Soon we will see a whole lot of iPod touches on craigslist. If you are in the market for an iPod just wait a little longer to get a great deal on CL.

Darn, that would've been sweet with the extra $150 off.

Historically they've released new revisions of ipods and macs around the last week of august/first week of september. This rebate programs allows them to clear old inventory (both iPods and Macs) without having to lower prices for the regular retail market (which might negatively impact their cachet- Apple doesn't want people to think of Macs as something you can buy "on sale").
Targeting students with the discounts also provides a lower barrier to entry for new users who are likely buying their first computer. And many mac users I've known have become lifelong fans.. it's a smart move all around.

New revisions of MacBooks are actually released in October/November. I'm guessing this is done to prevent people from returning their older version after the sale ends in September.

...partially true...they just update the white macbook today.

What type of verification do they ask for? Scan of student ID, transcript, etc?

For those who are not students, etc ... Both Mac Mall and JR Computer/Music have good deals on 15" mac book pros. I bought 15"/2.4ghz/2gb Macbook Pro at JR computer for $1,850 with free shipping and no tax plus additional 5% off by using Live.com. Actually was not totally thrilled with the fact there was one frozen pixel on monitor so contacted Apple and they so no go .. its within acceptable limits. Called JR they said no problem send it back and we will replace it .. no restocking fee, etc.. Mac Mall had 15" MBP for $1800 with no tax with small shipping fee, 3% from Live.com as well as some deals (FAR) on HP printer, software (parallels), etc to sell on eBay if you don't want them. I went with JR because they have a better rating but MacMall not bad probably better deal but had already ordered from JR. JR had around 7 rating on reseller ratings and Mac mall had a 5.75. With the money you save you can get an iTouch.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?
In my case, they called the institution/school to verify the info.
No. Both of you are wrong. There is no predetermined product release cycle. See Mac Rumors' Buyer's Guide for product release cycles. Odd, I would have expected cminh to be a new member like oopsz offering free, but completely unfounded computer tech advice...

For those of us that got on this deal already, I contacted Apple and you have two options if you purchased it within 14 days. You can bring in your mac and get a price adjustment or pay a 10% restocking fee and get a new mac. They will take care of the rebate. Pretty nice for me considering I got a macbook and now the new 13" macbook pro is actually cheaper than the macbook.

Actually the deal is better than that. After speaking with apple numerous times they connected me to the Apple Store in Austin, Tx and the manager wrote on my receipt that I have 30 days from the purchase date to bring the macbook back and "upgrade" to the newly announced model with NO restocking fee. They will ALSO adjust the price downward with the new pricing so I am supposed to get a refund with the new price. They are also honoring the rebate on the IPOD as stated. Pretty nice!
You won't have to pay the restocking fee if your system suddenly, mysteriously doesn't work anymore. It's still under the one year warranty and with a receipt they have to take it back. There is NO WAY I'm paying restocking fee for returning a BROKEN machine. "You can return it, but we are going to keep some of your money."??? Ummm, no you won't.

I'm about to pull the trigger but need to know from all of you Appleniks, is the antiglare screen worth it compared to glossy screen? It's an additional $45 with student discount. Thanks.

If I go through fw for CashBack and then navigate to my apple education online store through the online Apple Store, do I still get fw Cash Back?

I've used both screens in an office with bright overhead lighting. I don't really mind the glare on the regular screen, and the color depth seems better. However, if you're going to be working outside or in an office with a lot of fluorescent lighting, it's worth the $45. Apple's anti-glare screen really works.
