Microsoft is so dang stupid. If they made the FULL version of Windows 7 $99, I bet they would make a TON more than @ $250 or whatever vista costs. And I can say that because I've NEVER paid for a copy of ANY windows version, not even with a new PC(I build all mine), and I'd buy windows 7 @ $99. That's gotta say something. |

FrugalFreak said:Simple math; Winders 7 + new needed PC hardware = $$$$$$ for MS & Manufacturers. It means YOU LOSE! Actually, you're wrong. Win7 RC1 is as fast as XP64 on my 5-year-old Athlon 64 3200+ system with 2GB RAM. You don't need new hardware to run Win7. |

I have been running windoze 7 for about a month now. I like it overall but have a couple of issues that I hope will be resolved in the final release. 1. my clock seems to always be off by about 10 mins. Sometimes it is right and then I look down at it later on and its off by 10 mins. 2. the windows video player doesn't seem to work well for me. 3. on 1 out of 5 boots for me the network adapter isn't enabled. I remember when XP came out, there were so many great deals. I ended up with a burner, scanner, and a bunch of other freebies from office max. |

I assume you have to buy it from a reputable pc place. WRONG, as is clearly stated in the title of this thread, you can buy it at BestBuy. Is Best Buy really reputable? I don't think we can trust them! |

From my experience so far with 7RC1 I have one very suprising thing to say. The hardware support is better, easier, and quicker than even XP. I had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get my webcam and hdwonder working on XP, on vista, I had to right click and press "fix". Then wait 3 minutes. I almost fell out of my chair with suprise. |

Hey, Microsoft has already announced 4 months back that they will make upgrades free for vista machines brought after July 1 2009. If at all, Dell, HP can choose to price at their will for the upgrades. Also Windows 7 is much better than Vista, and works with most other hardware. It has won rave reviews and also includes a xp mode for softwares that work only with xp. |

I'm running Win7 build 7100 on my old Evo n620C with 1GB RAM and it is running better than it did with XP. Win7 found all the hardware including my old Wireless LAN card sitting on top (not the W200). I don't have the trackpad virtual vertical/horizontal scroll, but I'm guessing the WinXP Synaptics driver would take care of that if I installed it. I'm also seeing some sleep/hibernation issues that need to be worked out. I agree that the hardware support is much improved and to me the performance difference is worth the upgrade. Win7 seems to require less CPU resources (maybe due to fewer memory leaks?), and the fan doesn't seem to run as much as it did with WinXP. I think Win7 will give new life to my older hardware, so I may not have to rush out and buy a new laptop in July like I planned to. |

You probably already know for your PC to run XP Mode in Windows 7, the CPU has to support Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V), and this support has to be enabled in the BIOS. Most AMD CPUs (except Sempron) support the AMD-V or XP mode, but not all Intel CPUs support it. desktop CPUs with Intel VT mobile CPUs with Intel VT |

For us to get this pricing, do we have to buy a new pc at the same time? When i bought a new laptop from BB, they sold me a vista ultimate upgrade for $99. This sounds a lot like that. Anyone? |
