OK, it's 6/26, but I can't place an order. Did FW folks already scoop every last copy? |

You forgot to add (or maybe it's implied) MS also decides when our perfectly working hardware setup is now "obsolete". That's decided when Crysis 2 comes out, I'm pretty sure mine requires some major upgrades. Windows 7 runs frigging nice also, hell it even runs well on NETBOOKS.

Do we know if the $49 version (HP) will work as a downgrade to Vista Ultimate or are you stuck forking over the $200 for 7 Ultimate? |

Windows 7 Upgrades are only good from like-to-like Editions, so you can't downgrade from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home or Pro. According to Microsoft's page though, retail packaged Vista Upgrades bought from June 16, 20009 - January 31, 2010 are eligible for a the free upgrade to Windows 7: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade.aspx I'd wait until tomorrow to get full details on promotion, but assuming a retail Vista Anytime Upgrade package counts...
Buy a Vista Anytime Upgrade from Business to Ultimate from a retailer, like from Amazon for $140: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015E98MG Request the free Windows 7 upgrade from MS's site, using the purchase info for the Anytime Upgrade. They'll send you Windows 7 Ultimate to match your Vista Ultimate upgrade. There, that's $140 to get a Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade. |

The big question is Which if any of the stores have coupons or discounts that we can stack to make this deal sweeter? Which has the highest fat cash or other Cash Back? Bill me later discounts? $x off $y Coupons (looking at you Staples)? |

Could someone please help me out a little...(I did read this thread)! According to this link APLink I have to buy a new computer (starting tomorrow) with Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate to be eligible for the free upgrade...no mention of XP in the statement quoted from this article below...so am I correct in thinking that if I buy a PC tomorrow with XP on it I'm not eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 7 in October? "Consumers who buy Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate computers starting Friday can contact the PC manufacturer for a free upgrade when Windows 7 becomes available on Oct. 22. Windows Vista Home Basic is not eligible for upgrade. The offer will run through January 2010." |

You would not get a free Win7 upgrade for buying a PC with XP at any time...Only PCs with Vista Premium...,etc. are eligible. Even those are limited to specific models. I just bought a refurbished PC with Vista premimum, now I'm ready to pay the $50. |

Thanks, I went back and reread the specs for the laptop I was looking at...it said it comes with Windows Business Vista with downgrade rights services for Windows XP Professional....so I'll wait till tomorrow and see what the specs say about free upgrade to Windows 7 if I was to buy and opt for the downgrade.
