I don't know too much about this (so, dont be hatin'!!-lol), so ya'll can tell whether its a good deal or not...and I know you will --just thought I 'd put it out there

Bought one, looks & sounds awesome. I usually don't get extended warranties but it was so cheap to do. Square trade was 34.99(3 year) but if you use the code "father" it knocks off $7.00. I went a step further and added accidental coverage for $15 but with the coupon it reduced it to a total of $39.99. I guess the coupon is for 25% off.
Now that the Viliv S5 and X70 (atom based) are likely to start meeting demand and shipping in decent quantities soon, it's not surprising that this device and the Samsung Q1 are on sale today. But this device is 1/2 the cost of the S5 and X70 right now. This is quite a deal for what it is, and I'd probably buy this over a F500bt for my car, but after you see the S5 and X70, it makes pulling the trigger on this sorta hard. still.. for the price, tempting.
This is tempting, it would make a great car PC for integrating into the dash, especially since it takes up so little space. I see 1GHz CPU, but what kind is it? VIA?
Here is a cut and paste out of the Jensen manual(probably the same unit)
standard section Item V1 Graphic part Display 7”WVGA TFT LCD touch screen type Resolution 800*480(Max 1024*768) pixel 3D Graphic Support O General Size 192(W)*120.5(H)*25(Depth)mm Weight 695g CPU V1A 1Gigah Memory 256MB DDR2 533 Storage 1.8” 30 GB(HDD) Mini SD card slot Navigation Functions GPS Antenna Internal type SIRF-3 Navigation Type Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007 DMB Function DMB Normal DMB included Normal DMB Data Broadcasting O Function Supported Land-based Wire Lan 10/100Mpbs Ethernet(extension port included/option) Wireless Lan External USB type option Multi-tasking O System Recovery O Input/Output Speakers Mono Microphone Internal FM Transmitter O Remote Control O TV Output O

Whoo Hoo, I got the owners manual for the Jensen version. Check out the specs, 1024x768 display! And remote control! It uses a Via Gigah chip. What ever that is. Its going to be slower than an Atom.
Thinking about this, a net book is a better deal. But, this does have touch screen and is car friendly.
Looking over the manual, its using AMI BIOS and a Via Eshther chip. 1GHz. There seems to be a module that enable 10/100 Ethernet and external monitor with 2 additional USB ports. I don't see if it is included with the GPS(?) Uses the Via CX700 chipset. Can boot from an external USB optical drive.
I really hope the memory is a sodimm and not soldered. Looks promising since there is also two uren models that have two different memory specs. Anyone know for sure?

I guess these days less people buy this kind of devices. When you have iPhone or similar type of smart phones with built-in GSP, and Web Browser and many other features, you really don't need this type of GPS. I would save money, and go with iPhone unless I really need big screen.
Save money? And how much is your 2 year iPhone plan costing you?

I ordered one last week - should be here tomorrow.
from what i researched, i think this is a great deal.
Why?
This was originally marketed to new car dealers for installation in new cars and/or used cars.
Pros:
ultra-mini mobile personal computer runs Window's XP Home edition (service pack 2) 1024 x 748 graphic display appears it has window's media player - so it plays all types of Audio - MP3 plus WMA and also plays video formats. has gps unit - w/maps of North America - USA and Canada Gps uses voice prompts and speaks street names has network capabilities - wireless and wired has bluetooth has FM transmitter (can get it's sound on your car radio) can play games has 2 usb ports has slot for memory card
cons: internal memory is only 256mb (and not sure if it is upgradeable or not hard drive is only 30 gb (and not sure if it is upgradeable or not processor is only 1 ghz
BUT hey it's only $269!!!!
For this you get a mini-pc with wireless networking and with GPS - how can you go wrong??
For me I've been researching GPS units and did think about upgrading my old Dell AXIM PDA with a GPS card - but since my PDA is 6 years old now it was really cost prohibitive.
I checked out plenty of GPS units and they range in price as you all know - but how many of them have full internet capability? and for this price?? So I ordered one and will be analyzing it once I get it.
What I'm hoping: a) it has a 3 year warranty like it's twin Jenson unit. b) the memory is upgradeable to at least a gig (so I can run office and/or ms works) c) the hard drive is upgradeable d) I can get an up-to-date Map for North America.
Like I said, I'm hoping it has those capabilities. I'll know soon enough and I'll let y'all know.
BUT even without these "extras", this is a great deal in my opinion. It will replace my old PDA and become my GPS unit plus be my portable PC.
Oh - someone above asked about a monthly charge for internet - my reply - internet would only be free if you were in a wireless hotspot that offered it free. many restaurants and superhighway rest stops usually have it available - and also most motels and hotels. so you could bring this on the road and it would give you access to your email and internet. Also with it being bluetooth - you may, and I said MAY, be able to hook this into your cell phone to get your internet access - that is if you pay for it as part of your cell phone plan.
and the box shows it was Made in Korea. Which to me is GOOD NEWS - no made in china crapola.

why do you need a GPS when you have a iphone?

fujas,
I don't have an iphone -
plus folks want GPS units with larger screens. who wants to squint at an iphone screen?
This particular Advent unit has an extra large screen - perfect for those who want detailed maps.
now if this advent umpc would last longer than 2 hrs on battery power, I'd be able to bring it on hikes......though I wonder if it would be easy to switch in a spare?
anyway - some of the first things I'll do when I get mine are to look at it's innards - I want to know if -
a) the battery can be replaced - i.e. carry a spare for hiking. b) the memory can be upgraded - looks like it can be but don't know for sure. c) the hard drive can be upgraded - it's an 1 1/8" hard drive - so it's possible that you could upgrade it to a higher capacity drive. d) and what the warranty is - I don't want to fool with the innards if it's still under warranty, though I do want to upgrade it if it's capable of being upgraded.

The iPhone makes a sucky GPS. It needs a data connection at all times. For that, you need a ridiculous $70/month plan. How is that a good deal? Considering most people have multiple recurring bills like that, it's no surprise some people are struggling to make ends meet these days.

looks like a remarket of the UREN 1 from korea
nice xp machine with touchscreen, bluetooth, gps and remote (tv tuner ready)??? for under 300 is way too cool.
will try to upgrade SSD HD and memory and if that's upgradeable, this is worth at least 4 times the price.
It seemed more interesting when the display was apparently 1024x768 - but from what everyone's pasting, it looks more like 800x480? That's an awfully small screen for even the lightest-duty web browsing...

It's only 7". 800x480 is a decent resolution for such a tiny screen. It's only about the size of the face of a double-DIN car stereo.

just got mine and checking it out now -
it's SWEET!
NICE SIZE!!
The wireless network works - just linked into my home network without a problem.
Has Internet Explorer 6 - so I'll have to upgrade.
Navigation Software is Brilliant - even has my home street (which is a private road) - even the brand new tomtom I bought from Amazon (and returned) didn't have my home street on their map - this one does. COOL!!
The "stylish pen" is hidden on the side in the upper right corner - took me awhile to find it.
Still looking over the books while this thing charges up.
Will let you know what else I find -
But for right now - it's definitely worth it for me - it's a great mini-pc - or as it says, "7" Mobile PC Tablet"

Cool... can you load Linux on it or is the OS too well-embedded? Guess there's not much reason to since the GPS software seems proprietary(?). Also, someone mentioned it's the size of a double-din. Anyone have ideas about actually mounting this in-dash?

Found the warranty in back of the ADVENT Owner's Manual
"AUDIOVOX ELECTRONICS CORP (the company) warrants to the original retail purchaser of this product that, should this product or any part thereof (except game controllers), under normal use and conditions, be proven defective in material or workmanship within 36 months from the date of original purchase, such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced with reconditioned product (at the Company's option) without charge for part and repair labor."
I'm happy -
I had seen this mentioned somewhere - that it had a 36 month warranty, but couldn't find the site again. Now that I've read it in their documents - I'm a happy camper!
OH - BTW - I imagine opening up the unit to see if the memory is upgradeable or the Hard Drive is upgradeable would probably Void the warranty.
So only if I get desperate to run something or load a certain program would I attempt to open her up during the next 3 years....
and it doesn't come with an antivirus program - so you have to add one - preferable one that wouldn't take up too many system's resources!
Korian (thinking about ordering another for my partner - he'd love it! Great portable device!!!

I imagine that you could put Linux on it, but that would probably wipe out the GPS software - maybe - not really sure - sorry -
as to its dimensions -
it is 7 1/2 inches in length SIDE to SIDE (but then add another half inch for the power supply cable that sticks out when plugged in the side),
and 4 3/4 inches in width TOP to BOTTOM
and 1 inched in height. BACK to FRONT
oh and the VENT is on the top edge so I really wouldn't put it in-dash unless it was the topmost item and the vent was clear.
This unit is BIG for a GPS unit - I'll mount it in my car tomorrow and see what it looks like. I don't want it to block my view out my windshield, so I may have to built some sort of mount lower, by my unused ashtray change tray - (below my clock in my RAV 4)

wanted to mention that no shipping manifest was included in box - so remember to print out your Buy.com receipt and save it with your unit - you'll need it if you ever need any warranty repairs.
Also - the shipper is RICHMOND WHOLESALE - they're the ones selling this item on eBay for $299.
Korian - (still happy)

Try digital car uk forum under gps pc section and igo8 for pc and igo8 pc files sections. Much better gps softwares and maps compared to whatever that crap included on the unit
