I've been looking for 15% off at TigerDirect at Bing. What are you searching for that gives you 15% or is this more of a theoretical deal with the 15% based on some old post?
@gak - Per this article: Text "Those who already have a computer can pre-purchase a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $49.99 and a Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $99.99, starting on June 26. The offer ends July 11 and a copy of the OS will ship directly to the customer."
@shan - search for "memory card" and click on the TigerDirect link for 15% at the top. Then add the laptop to your cart to see CB from Bing.

Memory card works like a charm - for awhile I thought the 15% at TD had gone the way of 30% at eBay. Many thanks and rep'd, now it's time to buy the Compaq featured on another thread.

I considered this but I fear the price going up, losing 15% CB, or even it being out of stock by then. I've been shopping around and this just has the sweet spot of features that I was looking for.

Not bad at all. Much much better than your average $500-600 15" Laptop. Good find.

You have to search for specific products using bing.com
people have used "Memory card," "hard drive," and "LCD monitor" which will return TigerDirect sponsored link with 15% off. Once clicked through, just add the thinkpad to your cart and you will see the 15% CB.

The screen resolution is great, but the FSB and memory speed is not 1066. Depending on what you are looking for, a T400 or T500 from cpp or ibmspp with the p8600 processor and DDR3 would run you between $600 to $700.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great deal, especially with no sale tax (for CA).

I really wanted the dedicated video. I have the EPP for Lenovo and this is still way better than what I could build including a faster proc, dedicated video card, and higher screen resolution.
Certainly not for everyone, but I plan to run this machine for 2-3 years and this is a good value.

It's the same base price for me through FW, Bing, or just browsing to their site.

I just priced out a T500 on cpp, and right now with no promotion going on, I priced the following at $800.
P8600 at 1066 FSB (vs. only 800 for T61) 15.4 CCFL (the T61 is indeed WAY better on this only attribute) discreet ATI graphics with 256mb (vs 128mb for this T61) 2GB DDR3 RAM (vs. 1GB DDR2) 160GB 5400 HD (vs. 100GB 7200, a tie?) Wireless up to N (vs. G) Bluetooth Vista Premium (free upgrade to win 7 in a week) 6 cell (vs. 9 cell - although it "sticks" out and adds weight)
Bing Cash Back makes this T61 deal better. But when Lenovo runs a special at their CPP site, this type of config can probably be had in the low $700's.

Thanks OP for posting this deal. For $700+, I am not sure how good this laptop is, basic specs are missing like:
Got my T61 in the mail today. Posting from it right now. Notebook was manufactured December 7th, 2008. Very nice quality. Silent and cool running. Zero bad pixels. Vista 32 is a dog, but should be no problem after I get 4GB of RAM. I love the resolution, coming from a 17" 1440x900 to 15.4" 1680x1050. I also like the integrated hardware security features. Lenovo is certainly a high quality brand from what I have seen so far. My single complaint so far is that the left Ctrl key is not at bottom left corner of the keyboard - the Fn key is.
Looked up my warranty. Really hard to beat this deal considering 3 year warranty is included.

The Fn key - you get used to it. I've had my T61p for over a year and it is hands down the best notebook I've owned. No BSOD's yet!
I ordered one for my son, should be getting it this coming Monday. :--)
Solid Laptop. I have the T61 running Windows 7. Much better than the Dells and HPs in this price range. I am also probably biased because of the no-nonsense matte black look. Fn key is the only annoyance i have.

ok, dumb question time. i've been looking for a laptop for a while, waiting for the win 7 release info, and have always heard good things about lenovos. this looks like a great deal and it's in my price range. for me to upgrade the RAM to 4gb, how much would that cost, is it something i can pick up at a store like best buy or fry's, and is it a simple operation?
i'm living in africa right now but will be home visiting family in the states for the month of july - was figuring i'd order this, upgrade the memory while at home too.

Should be somewhere between $20-$40 to get 4GB ram. It is a fairly simple operation, but you might not get the best price at best buy. Fry's might be a better option.

Thanks to the OP for bringing this deal to our attention, and for the tip for finding the 15% link thru Bing. I just placed my order. What is the specific type of RAM I would need to order? I'm assuming that this has a single slot used up for 1GB and one slot free, so I'll probably just go with a single 2GB chip for the remaining slot. When configuring a machine on Lenovo's site, it claimed that I needed the 64-bit version of Vista in order to take full advantage of 4GB, so is 3GB the magic number for 32-bit versions of Vista?
If someone has a link or two to some 2GB RAM deals (either from TD or Newegg or wherever) that are compatible with this machine, that would be appreciated.
Allows the system to run in dual channel mode and I noticed a speed increase (with SuperPI benchmark) when I reconfigured my 3GB to 4GB even though I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit.
But yes, you could simply add one 2GB stick at half the price and be fine for 32bit Vista.

Thanks. I was reading the Newegg reviews and saw several people comment that Vista 32-bit can only utilize about 3.5 GB. But even if that's so, I'm thinking that it's worth spending the extra $20-25 for that extra 0.5 (or whatever) GB. Plus, I may not get the full dual channel performance increase if I only added a single 2GB chip that might not match the same speed as the 1GB chip Lenovo puts in there.

I have one that is similar, my wife has a comparably configured HP, I like the IBM/Lenovo a lot more it just feels better built and tougher and seems to have less quirks. The only thing I like better about the HP is that it has a HDMI out which these Lenovo's does not.
If you get the T60u I suggest getting this. I haven't personally tried it with mine but plan on getting one. It is free shipping and a lot cheaper than the OEM which I do have and having the extended battery is really noce. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17303
I ended up ordering the 4GB Kingston HyperX kit from Newegg for $51 shipped. It had the lowest latency settings (4-4-4-12). I figured it was worth the extra $20 over cheaper rebate RAM, particularly since I don't need to extend the warranty to 3 years through Lenovo as initially planned.
I have purchased Kingston HyperX one other time about 8 years ago I think; my first dual-channel 512MB kit. After they were retired for about 6 years I put them in a Linux home server for a while and they were still running great until I swapped them out for a 1GB generic kit I found lying around.

Three quick questions: 1) How do I get the free window 7 upgrade? 2) The warranty on TD is only one year. Should I purchase an extra warranty to get 3 years? 3) to check the availability of international warranty should I use 6457? Thanks Fabio
