I just checked inventory online and since several did have this in inventory I picked my 2nd favorite eastern Mass store to call (convenient to me to/from work compared to most others). Naturally I wanted to reserve one (preferably on for my Dad too). After waiting a while for the guy (kid) on phone, who thought they;d have em, to come back from the back stock check or whatever they suddenly only have one and of course it happens to be already on hold for a customer.....so, why do I feel like I just tipped this kid off that a good bang for buck (better than last Black Friday) deal was right under his nose? Folks I suspect, in hindsight - doh, calling to reserve only guarantees that the staff gets them first. Better to take them by surprise - and to ask a manager...heck I'd even say why....without being accusatory of anyone in particular. Today's note to self lesson - Gotta play tough AND smart to get the deals from 'the man' (or boy). |

GnatGoSplat said:Got mine open if anyone is interested. WD7500AAVS inside, 8MB cache, it's a WD Caviar Green 5400-7200rpm. I got one but I'd hope to receive a 16MB AACS before I open it up. The AAVS has a reputation of being quite loud during seeking. Do you mind sharing your drive's warranty exp. date (just an approximate) as a reference? The one I bought expires 11/28 this year, I'm hoping it's newer. Here's the link to check WD Warranty. Thanks. |

By default, the warranty date is calculated from the manufacture date. However, if you have proof of purchase, we can update the warranty to calculate it from the purchase date. If you feel that the warranty date needs to be updated from the purchase date, please follow the instructions below. 1. Send us an email from this link: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php 2. Put in "Update warranty" in the subject line. 3. Attach a picture or a scanned copy of your purchase receipt (jpg, jpeg, or gif formats only, max 500KB) 4. Send the email. Once we receive the email, we will verify the information and update the warranty accordingly. You will receive a response from us about the status of your email. |

Warranty on mine expires 11/23/2009, but looks like if you have proof of purchase WD will change the expiration date. vws said:GnatGoSplat said:Got mine open if anyone is interested. No luck in Sacramento. Inventory lookup showed two nearby stores had limited availability. Went to the nearest store, checked the shelf before asking an employee, they knew what I was looking for before I asked and said the only one they had was a damaged return (I'm skeptical) and that's why it shows available online. Also said the other nearby store sold theirs this morning. Upon returning home the inventory shows only one store still has any, the one with the supposed damaged drive. Thanks for the heads up anyway OP. |

@ freesbsd & UkieAndrew: Thanks for checking, I actually have no issue with warranty updating stuff. My post was directing at anyone who has opened up the enclosure (as illustrated by GnatGoSplat's link above), pulled the drive out and read the model label on the bare drive. Without removing the bare drive first, I was hoping my warranty date indicates that mine is newer (than GnatGoSplat's), so it might not be the older "WD7500AAVS" model. |

Some people can see beyond the tag "senior member"!

07436 - You have to give them the SKU because they are locked away and not out front. |

Chances are you alerted some sale associates of the deal and they told you they didn't have any to keep you away. It's so simple to see, but people just have to call anyway. |

None available in the Salt Lake City store. The website showed "Low Stock Clearance Item", and they had one in stock, but it was a damaged return......................... at least, that's what they told me. |
