Ah so you are that guy who called ahead - bad FW etiquitte. Manager had told me it is against store policy is not to hold clearance items so I tried to get him to sell it to me instead. I should have tried harder.

I wonder what kind of drive inside? IDE/SATA? Can I replace with a bigger drive down the road and keep the enclosure?

Oddly, early this morning, Mistadeal's inventory link showed that only one Staples in the Phoenix area had these hard drives, but now it shows at least three having them.

BTW, if you live around Phoenix, the Staples least likely to run out of stock is at 4350 W. Camelback Road, in Glendale.

I should have tried harder.It's common knowledge that Staples online inventory isn't all that accurate, so before you go trashing someone, consider the possibility that you just "mist a deal" because he got there first and snagged the second to last, leaving one on hold. That could have been saved for someone else, maybe even for the store manager.
Considering his post was 8 hours after I was at the store, that is unlikely the case.That might make sense, if you hadn't waited 19 hours after he scored to post your complaint.

I called the 1-800-3staples number and found one store has it. I went to the store and asked the manager for the drive. She checked on the system that indicated one in stock. She went to the storeroom and came back saying that the drive was put on hold for another customer (most likely for herself).

I used the inventory link that was supplied in the beginning of the post to find out which stores had it in stock. I called them up one by one until someone was able to put their hand on one and put it on hold for me. It took me 45 minutes of driving to get to the store to pick it up, but it was worth it. I had a Rewards coupon for $30 from used ink cartridges so I used that. And then I told the cashier that I "forgot" my family and friends coupon so that was another 10% off. I got the drive for $15.42 out the door. Pretty darn good deal if you ask me. I just bought the 1TB version last month for $99 from them so it seams like they have decent deals on hard drive every once as a while. So, including this 750gig, I am up to 5.5TB of storage. Some how I don't think I'll need anymore . . . for a while at least. =D Thanks for the great heads up!!!
