Manager had told me it is against store policy is not to hold clearance items so I tried to get him to sell it to me instead. I should have tried harder. |

I should have tried harder. It's common knowledge that Staples online inventory isn't all that accurate, so before you go trashing someone, consider the possibility that you just "mist a deal" because he got there first and snagged the second to last, leaving one on hold. That could have been saved for someone else, maybe even for the store manager. |

I wonder what kind of drive inside? IDE/SATA? Can I replace with a bigger drive down the road and keep the enclosure? |

dragonle2000 said:any one else score one beside OP.I did, and the 10% coupon was accepted without question. Oddly, early this morning, Mistadeal's inventory link showed that only one Staples in the Phoenix area had these hard drives, but now it shows at least three having them. BTW, if you live around Phoenix, the Staples least likely to run out of stock is at 4350 W. Camelback Road, in Glendale. |

I got one of those here in S Florida. Used the 10% coupon and learned that multiple discounts do not work. The CC I wanted to use carries a rebate for all Staples purchases and that caused the 10% coupon to be rejected. I checked the drive and found out the device inside is the WD7500AACS. That is the green drive... It consumes less power(5W), is quiet but is just a 5400RPM drive......One way to know if the drive inside is the "Green" one is to size the PSU for the MyBook. The PSU for a 7200RPM drive would need to provide at least 2A at 12V. Also, if you thought of using the drive as an internal drive, some may need to be low level formatted using WD diagnostics software. I hope this information helps some of you |

I called the 1-800-3staples number and found one store has it. I went to the store and asked the manager for the drive. She checked on the system that indicated one in stock. She went to the storeroom and came back saying that the drive was put on hold for another customer (most likely for herself). |

The "AAVS" model is also a "5400rpm green" so I wonder if your conclusion is merely based off the power adapter specs. Did you run WD Diagnostics and get the full model number of your drive? If so, what's the sub model number (the 6 digit/letter suffix after "-") shown on screen? And does your S/N (printed on the bottom of the box) start with "WCAU8"? |

I used the inventory link that was supplied in the beginning of the post to find out which stores had it in stock. I called them up one by one until someone was able to put their hand on one and put it on hold for me. It took me 45 minutes of driving to get to the store to pick it up, but it was worth it. I had a Rewards coupon for $30 from used ink cartridges so I used that. And then I told the cashier that I "forgot" my family and friends coupon so that was another 10% off. I got the drive for $15.42 out the door. Pretty darn good deal if you ask me. I just bought the 1TB version last month for $99 from them so it seams like they have decent deals on hard drive every once as a while. So, including this 750gig, I am up to 5.5TB of storage. Some how I don't think I'll need anymore . . . for a while at least. =D Thanks for the great heads up!!! |

big YMMV on this. There were none available at any Staples stores near me however a very helpful Rep offered to order it from a store in a neighboring state that had 7 available and have it sent to my local store. Also was able to use the 10% coupon. |
