Dude, if you're going to call, you call the 1-800 number, not the actual store. Chances are you alerted some sale associates of the deal and they told you they didn't have any to keep you away. It's so simple to see, but people just have to call anyway.

As others have stated, what's to say you drive all the way to the store and the employees still say they don't have any to keep you away (assuming they have to go into the back to look for it)?

NJ. I always use both coupons in my local stores. This one is 20 miles away, first time I went there.

Wow, what store let you use both coupons ?

Anyone know speed of this HD? It took 6 hours to copy 36 GB ( 1.6 MB/s). Do I have to do something to speed up in HD or in my PC?

Two pages back someone posted it was a 5400 rpm.

Picked up the 640GB model at Poway, CA store for 66.50. they had 2 left after i purchased one. used the 10% customer appreciation discount. came out to about $62 plus change. the guy also gave me the 2 year extended warranty for free "since it was a clearance item" and he was in a good mood. =D

Went to stratham, nh and they had one for $80 (thought that was weird. then checked two other local Staples which had none. tried the item availability link on Staples website and said the next closest one was an hour away so I called them and they said it was damaged. when I asked how much it would have been he said $50. called back stratham and they scanned it, it was $50, theyre holding it for me now. could have avoided an hours worth of running around if I had just asked them to check the price. so pissed, lol. and I dont have any $20 off $50 purchase coupons just the appreciation one. so if your in new hampshire their empty unless u get lucky.

edit: ok, so I found a coupon on eBay. the guy at the register let me use the $20 coupon and the appreciation coupon. Final cost for hdd = $25, then $5 for eBay coupon. thanks, OP.

Use powered USB Hub and disconnect any other USB device you are not using.

RULE #1: NEVER call the store! You call, you lose.

Got one in Queens NY Monday. I actually called the store early on the morning , the sales guy told me that there was 2 in stock. I told him to hold me one, and asked him what was his name, he gave me the name of the sales manager who was going to be on the late shift. Later on I went to pick up the drive but the late shift manager said that he doesn't know anything about my "reserved drive". I was starting to make a scene about it when he went back to the storage room and brought one out with him. With 10% coupon plus $30 from the ink coupon, total $17 for it, not bad.
I think that most Staples have them but not showing in their inventory database or they don't want to sell them.

Yah i went in after looking it up online with the inventory checker. then when i went in and asked the guy as i pointed to the empty spot on the shelf.
Employee: "no we dont have any left."
Me: "you mind checking in the computer?"
Employee: "sure... oh looks like we actually have some in stock."
Me: "yah i know."

One in Delavan, WI in case anyone is interested. If the store was just a bit closer to me I'd consider it, but oh well.

Hey mistadeal, FW is YMMV. How 'bout not trashing anyone because you were too slow/used ineffective tactics, or just not trashing anyone, period?

What's it do for a layperson?

winton said:larrymoencurly said:A cool information/diagnostic tool for hard disks, including external drives: HDDscan 3.1What's it do for a layperson?Nothing, because its made for disk drives.

It can test the drive for bad sectors, generically and through SMART, erase data, adjust seek speed (seek noise) and power management, provide information about capacity (including cache capacity), model number, serial number, number of sectors that have been substituted by spares, number of total hours of operation since leaving the factory. The power-on hours information can be helpful when buying used drives, including those inside laptops, and to see if a computer or drive has been returned to the store (sometimes with a different internal HD than provided by the factory).

Actually there are several other programs with the features of HDDscan 3.1, but this program is somewhat better at testing and providing information about external drives, which other programs are more likely to treat as generics.

HDDguru.com has user forums and some other diagnostics, including MHDD, which can self boot.

Was it the one I set aside earlier but never found a time to pick up?
