You should have a fan brace for fans, you can buy one that installs through the existing light fixture hole and unscrew it until it bites into both sides of the ceiling truss, these fans can make a lot of vibration if not installed correctly and as said before crack the ceiling and possibly fall down.

I installed my first ceiling fan about a week ago. Took me about 3 hours. It was perfect! You will need cordless screwdriver to make your job way a lot easier. Bought fan at Home Depot for $69. Wish this was on sale last week

Would you mind posting the reverse blade color when you open it up? Am hoping for white.

They have an all white version if you want , but the reverse blade color is a maple wood color. Very contemp with the nickel.

You should not pay anyone more than $75 to have a fan installed to existing wiring. Your local handyman is the guy to call to install a fan.

If you don't know, then you better hire an electrician!

$250 to install a $50 fan SLICK!!!

not

Burning down yours and your neighbors trailer homes for a total loss of $13,067.43 in order to save $250 SLICK!!!

Guys not to burst any bubbles but check teh cfm rating on this. I remember looking at a 39 unit at Home Depot that higher cfm rating and better energy efficiency and also higher blade pitch. Thanks for sharing the deal but I bought and returned this unit when I found regular priced unites at Home Depot that are more efficient and move more air.

above said:There's also a free $20 gift card via rebate if you buy ceiling fans $99 and up. I wonder if you can buy two of these and be eligible?

FYI, I bought 5 of these fans the last time they were on sale for $60 or so. The rebate did print out, grouped as follows:

3x$60 fans (white) = $180
2x$60 fans (wood) = $120

and it said I qualified for the rebate. I sent it off and it was rejected, but the rejection stated that if I had purchased a single fan >$99 I could resubmit. Hopefully this saves someone the .44 cents and hassle.

Anyone can mount it to the existing box (meant to hold a simple fixture) and it could work for years. Then again, it could come down right away or after some time due to weight (and maybe torque/vibration).

It is not hard to do it right, so please do! Electrical codes require a braced ceiling box specifically designed for the weight/motion of ceiling fans.

Lowe's has some here: Ceiling Fan Braces

Some are even made so that you can do it from below - no attic or "between the ceiling and upper floor" access.

In some cases, you need to get a permit.

Thanks OP.
I first bought a $25 gift card. Used the $10 off $50 coupon to buy the 1st fan, along with the gift card. Then bought the 2nd fan using the $10 of $50 coupon that printed with the 1st fan receipt.
So, for $98 + Tax, got 2 of them.
Was planning on buying the Costco fan for $130 + tax.

I ended up buying 3 of these fans, yes it only moves 4100cf of air on high at 55 watts, which is not as good as my family rooms fan which moves 6300 at 63 watts (also costs $150), but for the price, with the remote, I am all over it! I ended up buying a carpenter pencil for 28 cents, and it printed the $10 off $50, bought 1 fan after another with the receipt that printed. Excellent deal and thanks for posting!

Great deal. Bought a $10 gift card, got the $10 off $50 coupon, then bought the fan. Thanks for posting!

What communist country do you live in that requires a permit to install a ceiling fan?

Exactly the kind of thing I live for. And why my wife pretends not to know me at check out. Respect!

If anyone figures out a way to put a dimmable CFL into this thing and it be half decently bright, please post! I have looked up and down for a way to put a decent CFL in the ceiling fan and cannot figure out what will work good. One way might be using a circular florescent but I cannot find any dimmable ones. I am thinking maybe getting a bigger bulb like the e27 standard base that way I can go to a 60w or 100w (florescent equivalent) dimmable light but not sure if it would fit. If anyone has some ideas or maybe what will work with the dimmable switch, please let us know and post links. I may end up just not wiring the light into the remote and have to use the pull chain, but it would be awesome to make it work somehow with CFL's. They do have 5-7w dimmable florescents but would like something more decent!

I went back for something else today and I couldn't believe the whole stack of fans was gone, except for about a half dozen all white ones.

Off subject, but I got heavy duty shelves for almost half off. Sears has their 3 foor wide 6 foot high, 18 inch deep ,4000 lb metal sheving on sale for $59.99. I price matched to the 60, used the 10 off 50 coupon and they even did the 10% pricematch guarantee . With tax , I think they were $ 43.99 with tax total. Normal price, 79.99 on sale for 67.99, so almost half=price.

I also got a 4 light , 4 foot flourecent(T8 bulb) and a white cloud cover on clearance for %25. Normal price is $100 . I bought 2 at a time and used the 10 off coupon for a total of $ 42.70 with tax for 2 lights. This is less than 25 % of normal. Item number is 109570 and they had 2 left at Lehi, UT. I bought 8 so other stores should have plenty if this store was any indication.

Thanks all and OP.

Went to Lowes to check these out--very poor quality. They had some on display that just looked like junk. I ended up buying a fan from Kmart for $10 more that looks much better. Obviously neither would be a top of the line fan, but these at Lowes just seemed flimsy.

The only ones they had on display--and in stock for that matter were the all white ones--which I always think look cheap. Maybe if they'd had some with dark wood grain left I'd have felt differently.

Slickone said:FYI, you can get E12 to E26 adapters, so you can use regular bulbs. Text, Text, etc.
Wonder if regular bulbs would fit in the glass? Maybe if you just used 2 bulbs instead of 3, and bent the sockets in a little?

Easier than that, costco sells a 6 pack of sealed candelabra CFL bulbs for somewhere around $20. Other than these the I've seen the little round ones sold at Ikea. They were very expensive though... I think around $20 for a 2 pack. They were shorter so if space is an issue they might be a better option.
I can't find the item on costco's site, but they look like a normal "soft white" candelabra bulb but with a white plastic base.

There were also LED bulbs at costco, but these were very expensive.

Oh and I can confirm the 10 of 50 coupon is printing out with random purchases... I had to buy a strip of aluminum today and it printed out with my receipt.

Why do you say they are printing out at random and not on every receipt?

I've purchased eight items at Lowes between Thursday and Friday and each receipt printed out the $10 off $50.

I needed four shades that cost $69.00 each. I just went to the self-checkout line and did four separate transactions, one right after the other.

You guys looking for dimmable CFL bulbs, have you actually compared the energy usage? The power savings of a dimmer are exponential, not linear. In other words, an incandescent bulb on a dimmer set at 50% brightness does not use 50% wattage, it uses about 25%. Even dimming 10% saves about 20%. And the life of your incandescent will be extended accordingly. So I don't really think (personally) that the cost differential is justified.
