shank said:My Cloudbook arrived yesterday - here is a quick review.

The refurbished unit ships in a plain white box, with a photocopy of the quick start manual, but OEM disc with manual, drivers, etc. AC charger and battery appear to be new, as does the netbook itself - no signs of use or wear.

Snapped in the battery, powered up the unit, and off it went. It quickly found a wireless router, approximately 15 feet, 2 rooms away, and establised a solid connection. I first downloaded and installed the free home version of Avast AV, rebooted, then went on to run Windows update for XP SP3. This took a couple of hours (I did not monitor the process too closely), some Windows required restarts, but the whole process was smooth and completely uneventful.

While I cannot provide any specific benchmarks, the web browsing experience seems consistent with our other XP desktops and notebooks, and even after several hours of software updates, where the cooling fan would kick on for a good deal of the time, the case felt no warmer than my Dell XPS M140.

I havd read the online horror stories about the early Cloudbooks, spend several hours pouring through the Cloudbook forums on netbookuser.com, and based on my initial experience, believe that Everex FINALLY got it right - 1 GB RAM, WinXP SP3, 60 GB 1.8 HDD. In other words, Do not let the earlier experience of those with the failed attempt of a customized Linux OS (gOS), and insufficient RAM (512 MB) sway you from getting in on this hot deal - which I expect WILL RETURN, from time to time.

thanks for the review. when did you order it? I'm stil waiting for mine

I agree with Shank, I just fired mine up and all works well. For the price it was a great deal. Good little web surfer and play's you tube just fine.

Mine looks completely new also.

Mine arrived today, ordered on the 2nd. To GA
