YMMV, at my store they had a rack of these on clearance for $50 and the rebate just came out so it is free after rebate:

So maybe a warm deal if you order online, but hot if you can find it in store.

I know there are criticisms about lack of city availability on Amazon.

You might get more interest if you put in FAR (free after rebate in the title). I can confirm the $50 price in stores, I didn't pay to close attention to it though, didn't want some weather thing for $50, I can look out the window .

Though FAR, I can use some of my WalMart GC, think I'm on my last one though...

Good point, changed. And the nice thing about it is that it gives you the 5 (or 7 on the higher model) day forecast. Also air quality, UV, etc. on the 7 day one. (You can't get any of that from looking out the window.)

Its nice to have something like that that doesn't have a monthly fee and doesn't have to be connected to the internet or a PC. I'm not sure yet how well it works in my "rural" area. It started with a strong signal but this morning I only had one bar. . .

Where are the rack located in WalMart?

Every clearance is different at every Wal-Mart. Sometimes they are all over the store. Look for red stickers.

They are in the hardware dept. Confirmed at my store.

Use this link to determine coverage in your area. It's through Ambient technologies, but the device is the same (choose the 3, 5, 7 day forecaster). FWIW, the link would not load in Internet Explorer 8, but works fine in Firefox (may still work in IE 7 too).

About 15 left in Trexlertown,Pa. for $50. Hardware Dept.

Kind of a large rebate for a company that may or may not be in business in 6 months.
I would never pay $50 for this but since is is FAR, what the heck. Just hope the rebate comes.

Plenty left at store in North Central Washington. $50, hardware dept, just like you guys said.

Limit 3 per household

Thanks OP!

Also plenty left on the shelves in the land of the Huskers...Lincoln

Just bought three on South High Store, Columbus OH, and they had three more. Rebate is maximum of three. Rebate center said to mail them in separately but same address is okay.

Hmm..I mailed mine all in one since even on the rebate form the have a place for multiple requests ( ____ x $50.00 = )

That's what I was planning on doing as well, but I think its safer to do them seperately as it gives them one less fulfillment excuse. On a $10 rebate I'd do all at once, but for $50 its worth the postage.

Does anybody know what signal are the piggybacking on? I'm not supposed to have any coverage, but it at least got enough signal to work initially. Their mapping is the worst I've ever seen.

I picked up one of these for my parents two years ago. They seem to like it. However, keep in mind that these things chew up batteries like nobody's business. You really need to use rechargeable AAAs and refresh them every month or two.

these were marked clearance for $50 at my WalMart but rang up $99 at the register. THere were 2 different varieties- one with a blue cover and one with a green plastic covering over the screen. which are you all getting? The green one seemed to be older packaging and came up "item not found" for me when I tried to check out.

ya..I noticed that too....the "new" one...I assume..is the one with the little chrome painted pieces instead of the flat black on the other model...but both were listed at the same clearance price

awesome just grabbed one of 3 left at my local WalMart 50 bones, guess in the end i pay the 4 bucks in taxes 8-) thanks

While any business can and do fail, Bushnell is a pretty solid company - LINK to product

plenty left in Fayetteville, NC WalMart.

Btw, seems pretty stupid for a gadget like this not to have a built in alarm clock.

Why would you need an alarm clock? This is the kind of thing (IMHO) that you keep on your fridge.

I actually went out to WalMart to check them out. This is a little different from the one I bought two years ago. It is both better and worse. Instead of picking up only the local weather reports and being able to easily cycle through them, you have access to the data from the entire nation and you have to scroll through them in alphabetical order till you get to yours. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing depending on where you live. You might be near a state's border and would like to see the weather over there but the other state's name might be halfway down the list from yours. Another feature I wasn't aware of was the A/C adapter. This really changes things as you no longer have to deal with the rapidly depleting battery. Also, if you are using the A/C adapter instead of batteries, the backlight will stay illuminated in a color that represents the current temperature. Pretty neat. My WalMart had a whole bunch of them (the blue screen sticker 5 day version). I didn't see any other type.

Thanks OP, got 3 at the WalMart. They had rebate forms taped on the units. Using it now, looks and works nice.

My WalMart in Arkansas had lots of them. The 7 day model $75 5 day $50 both eligible for $50 rebate.

Best check the UPC's before purchasing. A model at my local WM was marked down to $50 was not the correct UPC.

Only the following UPC's qualify:
• Sku# 950005CX (UPC# 029757950093)
• Sku# 950005C (UPC# 029757950055)
• Sku# 950007C (UPC# 029757950079)
• Sku# 950007CX (UPC# 029757950109)

Tons of 5CX's and a few 5C's left at my WalMart. Bought one 5CX... Anyone know the difference between the C and the CX models??

If anybody is planning on putting this in a bedroom plugged in, beware, the light at nighttime is extremely bright. When I brought my new " free" toy home yesterday I was so proud. Then at night it was too bright for our bedroom so the wifey told me that either the gadget or she goes downstairs because she couldn't sleep. I compromised and me and my new toy went downstairs and I now have it in the family room.

I'm happy with it although there is now way I'd pay $100 if that was the original price at WM.Even for $50 it is too steep, but for $3.00 tax and a .44 stamp it is awesome.

bought some here also gonna try selling at my flea mkt biz - may be too pricey
no tax with my vendor' license
risk is the rebate I guess

So does C. Anybody else want to guess on what the differences are? I need to go back and compare the green and blue ones. Not sure if one of those is the C and one the CX. I bought three because I have 3 places I can put them. You could also do a neat little East Coast/Central/West Coast thing if you are into that kind of thing (like having multiple clocks for different time zones).

Works fine in Firefox. Like I said, this is the worst mapping web app I've ever seen.

According to the manuals on the web site, the "newer" models have a brightness setting on the back, high, low and off. I'm thinking I need to swap the two I haven't opened.

There are other seemingly positive changes too, like showing the internal temp. You can tell if you have the old one by looking at your manual and the page that shows the temperature ranges and colors, "70s" is repeated twice and "70s" is where "80s" should be.

OK, I called Bushnell and asked about the CX and C models, they said there really is no diiference except for the antenna stub (on the C) and the location buttons are silver on the C model. Operationally, there is no difference according to them. Also, the signal for the weather forcast is sent over the pager system, so if your pager worked in the past, this should work (again, according to Bushnell).

Remember the newer models have a different SKU #, so may not be eligible for the rebate

Newer Model #s: 950013C / 950015C / 950017C

Thanks for checking on that. I know in our case pager service was pretty much discontinued in our area, so I'm surprised I get a signal at all. And I think all over the country they are scaling back, so as the warnings on the mapping web site say, getting signal now is no guarantee you will get it later.

I picked up one yesterday for $45. I was thinking about picking couple more but will pass. Its not worth the potential rebate problems. Its surely not worth $100 or even $45.

Store I visited had about six of each model, and some of the 7-day models, too. All had "clerarance" shelf tags. Each unit had a photocopied rebate form taped to the package. I bought three of the CX model, and the UPC matches. Thanks, OP.

Yes, a bunch of mine had rebate forms taped. I haven't noticed that before, and seems to be unusual considering clearance varies store by store. Almost like they had a corporate directive to get these out the door for good or something.

FYI, 7 day model was $75 ($25 AR). Added wind speed/direction and UV Index info. I stuck with the FAR 5 day model. I have it plugged in and glowing red (91 deg in DFW, heading for 103) right now.
