Red because your link goes to the wrong place and double red because a similar deal on this laptop turned out to be crap due to HP shipping lappys with the wrong CPU.
Green from me OP. I've been on the fence about what to do with the one I got in the original screwup with the T7800. Just arranged for a return & refund w/ free return ship and ordered this deal. I don't care if the one I get has been opened and futzed with (the one I already have has been too -- by me), and I'll just keep the Vista DVD since so many folks didn't get them anyway. End result is I'll be over $100 ahead and will get all the extras to boot. Plus buying now gets me the free Win 7 upgrade. Liking this better all the time.
Note the $60 printer rebate is one per purchase, so you can lather, rinse, repeat.
I saw the other deal and it seems they listed the right processor now but for this price you will usually get a pentium dual core anyhow. It's $635 and if you sell off the printer and router maybe 535? Getting close to netbook prices.

I would think the bay would be temporarily flooded by now. <checking> Looks like about $900 or more for the T7800s. Hmmm.
Edit: A lot of them are for factory sealed units with the T9500. I wonder how many of those sellers will have big headaches after the sale??

Anyone have an opinion on whether I should keep the original t9500 one get the new deal? I only have a couple days left to send it back to TD.

Mine came with a Vista DVD that contains both the 32- and 64-bit versions. Also the XP CD was included. If yours were not included, contact HP and they'll send it to you. You have to request the Win 7 upgrade from the HP web site.
As for the cord, sounds like you got the monster 180W power brick. If it's like mine that came with the wrong cord, just use any standard computer power cord. Or you could contact HP and have them send you one.

For the power cord contact the customer service at HP.
For the vista DVD, Either contact HP to order the disk, or you can download it from other sharing sites and you have your Key below the notebook. There is someone in SD who uploaded the disk try searching the old thread in SD for 8710W.

Yes, that power brick is HUGE. Is it supposed to be the right brick?
I just had a online chat with HP, the guy told me to contact TD for warranty service? Which number and options did you call?
Thanks.

I only found one key underneath the notebook. How do I pick 64 or 32 versions? That one key cannot be good for both versions, can it?

And yes, the one key will work for either 32 or 64-bit.

I didn't intend to carry this laptop around much and I certainly don't ever want to carry it with this brick. So I should call HP and ask for the right AC adapter?
I searched on HP's website and just couldn't find a link to order disk. I can probably download a Vista disk but maybe the HP disk has a code that must be recognized when I upgrade Vista to Win 7. It would be best to get the disk from HP IMO.
Google "HP windows 7 upgrade" and click on the 2nd hit.
As for the power brick, the "right" one is a 120W unit that is not exactly dainty, but it is downright svelt next to the 180W unit. Many folks over at SD have said they got HP to ship them the smaller one.

thanks. that is the link to order the win 7 kit. How do I order the Vista disc from HP. My 8710w didn't come with one.
The HP part number for the correct power supply is 384023-00x (the last digit varies depending on the revision). I believe -001 and -002 are 120w and -003 is 135w, but all are compatible.

HP now is saying to get the right AC adapter, one has to contact TD to put in an order for the right parts.
canoner2000 said: HP now is saying to get the right AC adapter, one has to contact TD to put in an order for the right parts.Wow, that's weird for HP's business division, but may be why these were so cheap. I'm perfectly happy with the 180W adapter and can supply my own power cord. I suspect TD will be willing to send a basic computer power cord, but not a different power brick as the 180W unit works fine.
Edit: Actually, after using it I like the 180W more. Runs much cooler than the 120W unit I had with another system and will allow system upgrades if wanted in the future.
In earlier posts I indicated that mine came with Vista install disks, but I was wrong. That DVD w/ 3.5GB of stuff is just HP software and drivers for Vista 32/64. However, after a short chat with HP support they are sending 2 sets of Vista install disks. Link to launch a chat session from US:
Edit: They sent me only one set instead of the two I requested. Future chat sessions were worthless, but did get the right number to call: 800-952-7689, option 1. Spoke with a very pleasant lady who ordered up a second set free of charge, plus two sets for the 6910p units I also ordered that did not come with Vista disks. Pretty painless procedure.

I just placed the order with TD. The agent wasn't sure what will be sent. Yes the 180w brick works fine but on the rare occasions I need to take the laptop with me it is not gonna work.
