While trying to figure out how to get the Vista disks, I took a factory image from an HP 6910p unit that came w/ Vista preloaded and put it on a drive for the 8710w. Booted up and the 8710w installed Vista 64 pretty painlessly. Needed drivers for the video, but everything else installed just fine. Downloaded the drivers direct fromn NVidia. Also noticed the 3D Driveguard software was not working and research showed it to be a problem with Vista 64. You have to download the latest version of 3D Driveguard which is NOT the one shown when you look up drivers and software for the 8710w (that version does not work). The latest version is here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescrip... It updates the software utility plus the device driver for the laptop's internal accelerometer so that DriveGuard works in Vista 64 -- at least it did for me. You access the utility from the Vista's Control Panel where you can confirm it is working. Also reported to work in Win7. |
