I just ordered this very modem from Amazon yesterday for $39.02. Today, Newegg has it on sale for $2 less. If it were more than a couple bucks, I'd be really upset right now! The good news is that it's gotten a lot of good reviews, so I'm looking forward to getting my home computer network back online next week. Better, it's Mac compatible, which is a concern for me. I'm not sure there really is a modem that a Mac can't work with these days, but better safe than sorry when possible.

We currently have a Linksys... that is most definitely crapping out. It needs to be reset at least twice a day lately. We've had it a couple years, so I'm not *too* upset. WIsh it would've lasted longer, though!

Just bought two (one for grandfather-in-law who is getting a computer for the first time, and one for dad), and was about to post this deal until I saw that you beat me to it. I bought one of these when they were $43 with free shipping and it has served me well. Well worth it- it will pay for itself in cable modem rental fees within the year. Green for op!
These are the junkiest of the junkiest. I've owned half a dozen at least because they break that easily. I get mine replaced by the cable company about once a year or so. You'll be lucky if the sticker panel over the LEDs will stay on an entire year. The modem will overheat and melt the glue. Luckily my cable company doesn't charge rental fee on these things.

Thankfully (I guess...) the new higher speeds won't be an issue for me. We're at one of the lower-high speeds (how's that for an oxymoron... low high speed) and it works well for our needs. I don't foresee us uprading anytime soon. Still, thanks for the info, never know when it will come in handy!
I also bought one from Amazon. Newegg's price is $1.03 cheaper. They are both OEM. Installation was simple. I bought this to replace SB4200. The speed improvement is significant. It goes from 6/1 to 20/7.

What is your plan? I'm on a 5/.5 plan and have an old sb4100 but it seems fine. Would I really see a significant improvement with this newer modem?
FWIW, I have this cable modem, and have never had to reset it. In fact, the cable modem is installed about 8 feet up where I cannot reach without a step stool, and have never had the need to reach the modem in the last 11 month I have been at the apartment. I have Comcast service in WA.. this is a great stable mode. Not sure if the Docsis 3.0 will be supported on this one, but till then, this is a nice one to have.
I had this modem for almost 3 years - never had any issues whatsoever. I ended up upgrading about 2 months ago to the new Surfboard 6102 to take advantage of the new Docsis with Comcast in my area (Northern VA). My speed went from about 15/5 to 30/8 just from upgrading the modem without even calling the cable company - which I really wasn't expecting. Plus of course it has the giga connections - not that that matters I don't think. No issues with the new one, or old ones. Would recommend - great price.

I'm thinking I might buy this and then avoid the $3 or $4 per month "rental" (aka ripoff) charge fro renting a Comcast modem. Just got ours in last night and hooked up. A couple minor glitches at first, had to restart everyone's computers, but after that, it's been running smoothly so far. We have Comcast at my house, and so far so good. Such a relief already!

What's the install process for swapping out the rented Comcast modem with this one? Just call Comcast once you've swapped the modems so they can get the new one on the network?

Did you try calling comcast first? I had issues last year, called them out and they gave me a brand new modem for free.

Yep, simple as that! We found out the hard way the best person to call is the one with the billing. They ask for verification prior to making the change (which is good.)

Never mind. I found the answer by myself. I just signed up Cox and found that this model is also one the compatible list. Gonna give it a try. Thanks OP.
