Just curious what kind of crack they are on with a suggested retail of $649? I was expecting to see a full touch screen with all the bells & whistles. I'm not sure but with all the great features like the 3 pre amp outputs at 5V. That makes this price really good. I couldn't find one unit under $200 with just does options.

Jesus H. C.! No matter how good the offer is, there's always someone whining that it's not the exact thing they were looking for. Moreover, in this instance any HD receiver priced at $100 + change will sound like a cat in a garbage can when compared to this JVC with a Bongiovi Acoustics signal processor.
Rebuilder said: I wonder what the limit of the usb port is?....oops I found it ....4gb. That's a little better. JVC publishes what they verify, the 4GB isn't a true limit. It's usually a 500mV limit on power drawn from the USB port. The Western Digital Passport drives work, some have had very large drives attached to JVC head units with no problem. The key is not to daisy chain the USB cables, get one cable that's long enough to fit in the glove box/console where the drive will be.

Oh and the sd card slot limit of 512mb?...that's useless

It's apparently got a custom DSP to enhance sound. This unit is for audiophiles, not technophiles like myself. (Whereas I would prefer a touchscreen, HD radio, GPS, etc - an audiophile would prefer the pre-amps, sound processor and the ability to customize the sound based on the environment.)
Here is a good review. Not for me, but probably a good deal for those that appreciate this sort of thing!
Nice find OP. Tempted to upgrade my JVC, but it keeps plugging along. Hard to find 3 pre-amp outs, the DSP, and the USB at a pricepoint even close to this. Personally I don't want touch screen when driving. Let me set it all up in advance the way I like it and then give me a big volume knob so I can keep my eyes on the road.

So, does the the DSP work on the preamps too, I'm looking through the Crutchfield research, and it seems to be indicating that it is for the onboard amplifier.

It's kind of a pain to program and I wish they had included dedicated radio preset buttons, but overall I think it's a decent stereo for the money. The reason it doesn't come with presets is because it comes with the Bongiovi Acoustic. Each car setup is different and you are suppose to costumize it to your own car.
"The KD-S100 is not available as an off-the-shelf model. It can only be purchased through dealers--usually only on new cars. Bongiovi representatives say this is because each vehicle needs to be tuned individually"

Thanks! Thinking of getting one. Just got my car stereo stolen for the SECOND time, so I'd like to get in on this deal. My question is how you are supposed to program it to your car? I have a Honda Prelude, discontinued. Is it not going to programmable for my car?
The price includes a coupon code already.Read the first part. This is a great price for a stereo that comes with every single thing your going to need to install the unit. That's $37 worth of free stuff.

It doesn't come pre programmed for your Prelude you just have to set it up so it can sound good in that specific car.
Green for the deal and for OP. As said by someone else before, I laugh at the idea of this at $650. Has been $130 in the past @ Crutchfield which, according to reviews, seems to be a great price. Even better w/ $20 off coupon. Thanks.
Edit: Is SD/USB card restriction a firmware or hardware issue? Can this be updated if enough people complain?

It was $650 because it was sold initially only through new car dealers as an option on a car..and you know how much car dealers mark up options.
The unusual/expensive feature on this is the Bongiovi digital processor. Note that this feature only works as it should with FACTORY speakers, so if your speakers are aftermarket, the deck would work, but the special processing would not.
Also, there is NO indication on the Crutchfield site on how or IF they program it for your car. My guess is that the price reflects the fact that programming is not included. However, if that matters to you, you should call Crutchfield and find out. Without the Bongiovi feature it still looks like a nice deck, but one that misses its only outstanding feature.

Check out some more stuff www.bongioviacoustics.com/products-car-aftermarket.html The Bongiovi BS has nothing to do with radio station presets. This unit does in fact have 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets, they are just on the remote instead of on the faceplate.

Just because it's useless to you does not mean it's useless. I listen to a ton of podcasts in my truck (using my Blaupunkt SD48) and could fit many hours on a 512mb card.

In for 1! Thanks, from all of the reviews. This seems like a steal for a solid piece.
doannguyen97 said: Anyone know if this sounds good with aftermarket speakers and amp/sub setup?? Just curious I'm not really sure but with the preamp outputs at 5V for the front and rear speakers this should sound real nice. The higher the voltage on the preamp outputs the better. After market units usually comes with 2V or 2.5V.

I read through a bunch of reviews, and I remember one saying that it wouldn't work well with aftermarket, but they didn't say why...

Bongiovi...I saw them at Shea Stadium in 1992...they were AWESOME!!!!
code 3A825 20 off no visa needed, nevermind.. Thinking I'm helping, you got all the bases covered. Ordered one 109 with mounting kit, wiring, and removal tool. Thats a hot deal, no way this thing is 600 bucks though. Wondering how easy this will be to open, need to to wire the usb to the back. just need a nice size sd now.
I'd love to replace my factory unit but then I'd lose steering wheel control and not to mention this thing will be a thief magnet. I think it will be too much hassle for me in the end but good price nonetheless.
EDIT: found an adapter that allows the use of factory steering wheel controls but its almost the same price as the head unit.
Here is some more great info on how to setup the Bongiovi Acoustics. 1. Does the customer tune the radio to their vehicle? Does the customer set up a microphone in the vehicle?
When purchased through www.Crutchfield.com, The Bongiovi Acoustics Digital Power Station™ (DPS) comes with a tuning CD that contains a profile optimized for all vehicles. The tuning process (we call it vehicle profiling) is extremely complex and comprehensive, with over 120 algorithm calibration points. There is no “auto calibration” setup by the user or Bongiovi Acoustics engineers and there are no active adjustments made to the Digital Power Station™ through the use of microphones placed in the cabin. The end user simply installs the profile with the supplied CD. After the tuning process is complete, the user engages or disengages the processor by pushing a button and we recommend that you always listen with the processor in the on position. You may use the treble and bass co ntrols to fine tune the system to suit your individual taste. http://www.bongioviacoustics.com/car_faqs.html
