Did you read the terms?
There isn't even such thing as Silver Preferred at Budget

The benefits of Silver Preferred status:

http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/dividendmiles/preferred/sil...

Q: Wonder if US SP get benefits from their partners in the Star Alliance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Alliance

A: Silver Preferred elites receive Star Alliance Silver status. (BFD)

I do not think I'll travel with US Airways w/i 90 days, but I grabbed it nonetheless. You never know. Expedited security lines are nice; checked bags should be free anyway IMO. Automatic upgrades to FC are probably few and far between with this status.

Thanks OP!

Thanks!

Does it automatically expire after 90 days or do we have to remember to cancel?

It will self cancel.

thanks... after re-logging in, my status still doeesnt show up as silver. i hope it updates tonight ?

Thanks... i missed the part where it may take 14 days. I will look forward to the email update. I did get this email in my US airways dividend email account so its legit and valid for me

My experience has been otherwise. When I was Silver between 2004-2006, I was upgraded for free about 80-85% of the time. Obviously times have changed and they merged with Cactus since then, but it is free, so very worth the attempt.

I wonder if the 90 days is after the 14 day 'clearance' time, or if you really get 76 days...

In his defense, it is somewhat weird that they put a Budget ad on the page.

That huge Budget ad is totally misleading, smack dab in the middle of the silver offer description.

I don't plan any flights with them in the next 90 days, but what the heck! You never know. Thanks for the tip.

It's a Budget/US Airways campaign:

RapidRez Fastbreak refers to Budget's quick check-out service.

Awesome... Someone is 'Selling' the details for this promo on eBay for $12.95 each!

United has a different program. You need to enroll in the US Airways program to participate in this promo.
If you use the US Airways # on a United reservation during the promo period you can enjoy the Star Silver benefits.
However, the miles you accumulate would go to the USAIR program.

got upgraded today to silver.... 1 day turnaround

Thanks OP. I just upgraded my friend who is flying with them on 8/23

Thanks View for the clarification. I'm already premier status and have about 75K FF miles with united, not sure if it would be possible to combine FF miles from US air program once the promotion is over.

There is not a way to combine miles between a United account and a US Airways account. Since you're already Premier on United, the only real benefit would be if you fly on US Airways metal between now and the end of the year. If you have your silver US Airways number in the reservation, that gives you a chance at the upgrades to first class.

We are travelling to the UK in Sept so it will be great if this works. Thank you

Fantasic! Just signed up. I fly all the time, but rarely with US Air -- maybe this'll change that. If someone successfully uses this, please share on here. I am planning a trip to Germany in October and will try to hold out another 14 days to book the ticket and see if it works. Happy traveling!

@DayTrader -- Thanks for sharing!

Note that USAirways doesn't comp transatlantic business ("Envoy") class through their preferred program. This deal isn't quite that hot.

Looking to use a "buy 1 get 2 companion tickets for $99 each" from FL to AZ in Oct. Anybody know if they'll upgrade my ticket based on the discounted flight?

Upgrades are given on a "seat available" basis. If seats are available, you will get the upgrade. However, your companions will stay in coach.

If you have your membership number, there is no need to wait for booking. Note that the upgrades are for domestic US travel only (excl. Hawaii).

Great Deal, I'm flying all over the place last minute and try to fly Delta, but end up on US a lot as well. Thanks!

maybe i am not that excited now!

Free is free. Also, no airlines gives free upgrades on international flights.

It was never a published benefit, but Northwest had (and still has) a "Phantom" upgrade program where they would upgrade the 5 highest elites on international flights on a space-available basis.

For cheapDC and Zippy07 - ChampagneDan is correct that this will not get you upgraded on an international flight. However, if you are flying on a US Airways-operated flight, the miles/segments that you earn could possibly allow you to keep Preferred status, so there is a benefit to flying US Airways for those trips.

nuts, it would have been nice last week. flew us air, pre-paid online for one bag (non-refundable), us air changed my flight and told me i couldn't check my bag and to just carry it on.... so i paid 15$ to carry my own bag during two layovers. at least with this deal i would have been carrying my bag around for free.

In almost all cases EQM miles/segments will accrue on flights ticketed by Star Alliance partners for both domestic and international travel as long as you use your US Air FF number at the time of booking. This is also true if you book a flight as a code-share with a partner even if not flying *A metal (example: transpac flights booked on and ticketed by Air Canada but physically on EVA Air planes, Air Canada is a Star Alliance partner but EVA is not.) The most common exceptions are some tickets purchased from consolidators and on some partner airline's restricted fare classes.

So, you can book flights on for example United or Lufthansa using your US Air FF# and have the miles flown count toward renewing your status. The thing you would NOT get credited to your USAir account are the miles to apply toward upgrades or award tickets.

Just went on business Wed-Sat. Flew EWN-CLT-PHX-SNA and then SNA-PHX-CLT-EWN. The two first-class'able flights, CLT-PHX-SNA and SNA-PHX-CLT, I was not upgraded on any of the 4. Bummer. Ended up about 1000 miles short of the short-cut upgrade for all of 2010.
