Thinking this deal is pretty hot - I was at Best Buy today and saw an Acer Aspire AS6530-xxxx (sorry couldnt get the exact model #) for $329.99. But I do know the specs on it. It is NOT advertised any where and it is NOT on the website and it is IN STORE ONLY and the price appears to be nationwide.
Edit * Model # has been confirmed - It is the AS6530-6522 - SKU 945-9711 *
Specifications:
AMD QL62 3GB Ram 250GB Hard Drive Windows Vista Home Premium (Free Upgrade to Windows 7) 16" LCD with Built-in Crystal eye webcam! 3 USB Ports and yes it DOES have HDMI! (I saw it myself!)
Now this laptop is not a lightweight - you can see pics of it by googling AS6530 - but it does appear to be a fairly sturdy unit
Most stores got a shipment of at least 20+ units - so better go quick before they sell out!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
If I knew I could pick up 10 of them, I would drive the 180 miles to the closest location.
Any idea what kind of video card is on board? I searched online and can't find any AS6935 with an AMD CPU. Would be nice to have some more info.
From my prior experience with that model (with Intel chip), this unit weighs about 8lbs and the side buttons are annoying as heck since any slight rub against it, even while typing, you end up changing something.
This unit does not have the side controls on it. For the best picture of what it looks like, go to woot and you will see what the unit physically looks like. As far as the videoo card is concerned, I can pretty much assure you it is integrated - I am also fairly sure it is an ATI of some sorts - whichever one handles HDMI
Wow, that's really confusing, since the Acer website shows the AS6935 with side controls and the AS6930 has the keypad. And none of the configurations have an AMD CPU.
This unit definately has the keypad and not the side controls.

Hello All, Has anyone actually went to best buy and tried to buy one of these ?? All I can find out about it while googling for it is totally different spec's. that are shown here. Mainly, a totally different processor than what's shown here. I wish we knew for sure the 'actual' remaining four numbers of the model #. Thanks, David
Sorry I wasnt able to get the whole model # - I was paying attention to the model #. Best advice I can give you is to go to Best Buy when they open in the morning, and look for it on display. If the employees have not put it on the sales floor yet, you should see plenty of them in the top stock. IF they do not have it on display, look in the top stock for a black box that says ACER on it - it should stand out quite well.

Dear MrEd, Thanks for a quick reply..did you actually buy one of these ?? I wonder why they wouldn't have it advertised ?? David
No, I didnt pick one up. I just saw it and I had to do a double take. Then I had the guy look it up in RSS to make sure it wasnt only a store specific "clearance". When I saw it on RSS, that is when I saw that all the stores had an initial shipment of 20+ units, with some stores down to 5 or 6 left. Other stores still showed the 20+ units on hand. Which leads me to believe that they may not know they have them / not on display. And yes the price was $329.99 at all the stores. There were a couple of stores with 0 on hand, however, it showed 20+ units in transit. I am not sure why it wasnt advertised. But it could be a "burst" sku - like a one time model run and once they are gone, they are gone forever
When anyone gets a eyeball on this unit, please check for OS ... Vista Basic or Premium?? If Premium, ask sales clerk if eligible for Window 7 Free upgrade?? If yes, would be nice if they would put it in writing. I've heard at purchase you should receive a Windows 7 upgrade coupon.
Yes, this unit has Vista Home Premium. And yes it states on the sales tag that "This qualifies for the Free Windows 7 Upgrade" - so if you need it in writing, grab the tag and make a copy
I updated the original post to reflect Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 free upgrade

Dear MrEd, Thanks SO much for your headsup on this..I've been looking for a good deal on a decent laptop..unlike the $298.00 one that Wal-Mart recently had, I guess for the price..it was ok, but it only had vista basic installed, so it didn't qualify for the free windows 7 upgrade offer. I guess I'll grab a quick shower, and get ready to be @ the best buy when they open, who knows...maybe I'll get lucky. The only thing that bothers me about them is some of the 'horror' stories I've heard about them if you have a problem with something you purchase from them, I also work in retail..but where I work we go out of our way to please our customers. Thanks, David
i really need this and have tried to win this on differnt web sight i losed my job and can't adford one of these for my son for school so iam tryn to win this thought this web sight
I think you maybe right - I may have transposed model #s - Looking at Acers website and it makes sense that it is a AS5535-xxxx - I will wait for confirmation before making adjustment to the original post. THANKS!
I think the OP is correct, Acer does this for the big B&M stores. They used to do it all the time for circuit city with their aspire desktops. They build a model that doesn't match the normal specs for that model if the B&M's request it. You won't find it anywhere online.

Just went to the only BB in my area and they have not carried Acer laptops since December. The only $329 laptop they had was a Toshiba.

Did you look in the top stock? Look for a Black Acer Box? It appears that it may also be in transit for some stores - But rest assured all stores should be getting them in within the next days

Called up BB in Syracuse, NY (I live in VA) and they tried to order it for me but said they could not because it was on back order. No stores local to Syracuse, NY or Richmond, VA have it either.

I think you're right. Just went to a BB and the poor guy ran up and down the ladder looking for 6935 with no luck. He produced a 6530 for $329, but I had to leave before I could confirm. The specs look the same. I'll be going back in a minute to grab it.

Just went to the Best Buy in West Paterson, NJ (aka Woodland Park).
The salesperson in the laptops area said that they don't sell Acer laptops in that store, but there are a few online (looks like only Acer laptops with Atom processors). I told her I had read about a $329 Acer laptop and she said it was a west coast only deal.
Has anyone figured out how to contact Mentor Media? I just registered, on the final confirm page, it gave me an ASP database error. I can find no way to contact Mentor Media to confirm they got the order and see what my order # is.
