I copied the above specs from WalMart.com which still shows it at $498. I also checked and it is eligible for the Windows 7 upgrade. It seems like a good deal to me and I hope it is to all of you as well. Thanks!

great deal!

Unfortunately, WalMart markdowns & clearance items are very YMMV.

Been looking for something for my Parents, went to local WM (Ft Wayne, IN) and got last one. Clerk said he just marked it down today from 498.00!

Thanks OP!

Is there a good reason to go for a cheapo desktop at this price when you can get a similarly-spec'd cheapo laptop (like this one) on sale practically every week for the same price?

You'd have to make it a dual-core for this to be a good deal at this price IMHO.

Essentially, you are getting a $500 PC for $300. It's a celeron and good for some applications like email and chat. If you bought a gPC from WalMart, this is way better.

Your link is for a laptop, has basic, not upgradeable for Windows 7. The deal is for a basic desktop yes, but for some that is all they need. I am actually have the monitor sold for 100.00 which makes a deal for 198.00, heck the parts are worth that, 320gb hdd, 2gb ram, 16X DVD /-RW.....I am wondering if the upgrade will come on a dvd that can be installed on any PC or if it has to be on the one that was purchased. If it doesn't, it really makes it sweeter for me!

Our Wal-Mart (Newburgh, NY) doesn't have ANY desktops, only notebooks and one netbook.

Keep in mind that this computer is easily upgradable to a dual core processor at a reasonable price. A prudent person might wait for the price of current processors to fall as new models come out.

I did that with my Inspiron 531, which I purchased with an Sempron processor to keep the original price down. As AMD dual cores came down, I upgraded the CPU. BTW the Sempron was a surprisingly peppy processor, as I'd expect the Celeron to be in this deal.

People just don't seem to grasp that todays Celeron is more powerful than yesterdays Pentium 4.

Oh, spark911, which wallyworld here in Fort Wayne had one?

Well, thanks for letting me know - how odd to find a fellow Newburgh NYer in FW!!

Fort Wayne WM at Coldwater crossing....didn't check the others.

WIndows Vista 64 + Celeron = Junk

Got one at my local WalMart. Will sell the monitor for $100 -- this PC is then only $198. Excellent for my MagicJack.

I suspect a core2duo will fit right in. I got my wife a Dell 530 celeron 450 and I sold the 450 on eBay and bought a E8400 that dropped right in.

anyone know the link for the motherboard manual?

beh right... centrino. not a bad price

Even if it's a crappy computer compared to faster machines, I guarantee it's faster than my in-law's Pentium III with the nice boat anchor 19" CRT (which continually resets to 60 Hz and flickers like crazy). I'll see if the local WM has one for them.

great deal!

I confirm this price from the Fort Walton Beach WalMart. Unfortunately it was no longer in stock.

I'm surprised at the number of people who frequent this forum who a) don't understand cost-benefit analysis, and b) think that everyone has the same requirements. Maybe they should save themselves some time and ask FatWallet to automatically generate their comments for them if someones post contains certain words. Mention the word "Celeron" in a post, and the automation could reply with "Celerons suck. A computer with a Celeron isn't even capable of surfing the net." Or mention "SDHC Class 2", and the automated reply would be "Class 2 cards are useless for all applications. Never buy anything that isn't labeled Class 6, even if it costs more and speed is irrelevant for your application."

Anyone know if this deal is good in Houston stores? This seems like a good deal for the parents.

no, your inlaws need a core2do with high end gaming card. Especially for cpu intensive tasks like web surfing and word processing. I plan on asking DaytonDealer for stock tips, that fella sure seems bright

Celeron = crap. Those who say otherwise have never experienced what a good processor can do. Not top of the line. Even mid-range cpus crush celerons.

oos in New Castle Indiana store clerk said they were all marked dowm last monday, and were gone in a few hours. But he said they may get more in.

Got one in Rochester - Empire Blvd. Didn't try the one in Greece or Henrietta...

Geez, another silly comment from the peanut gallery.

Most people need a Core Quad Spazo edition processor like they need a twin turbo V12 engine to get them to the grocery store.

You could try reformatting to Windows ME.

Picked up the last one at the WM on 529 and Highway 6 in Houston. I got the last one, but the WM employee said they are ordering 12 more for the store.

My caps key was on from doing serial numbers on Staples rebates,
it was unintentional though the was very riled up at the time from those who crab about a Celeron.

Maybe so, especially once the old folk discover all the free porn movies they can watch.
It is nothing for my grand pa to have 6 movies on at once....
It would be bad for him to have a bumpy video or 2.

[Q

Just got three at Southlake,TX WalMart. Anybody know if this can be downgrade to XP?

Its should work after downgrade to xp. You can confirm with Dell that they will provide drivers. I will say put windows 7 once its out. Its a cleanest and best OS I have seen so far. Does not require installation of even one driver. My hardware and external DVD drive worked and even burned dvd's out of the box.

Can someone that has one verify this, and verify it has 2 1Gigs filling both slots?

This says dual channel is not supported on the 537.

I got one for my in-laws, but didn't think to check inside before leaving, can't easily check now, and want to watch for RAM deals to bump it to 4Gig.
