"Sign up for the Sony Visa Card and receive a free $100 credit after your first purchase of $299 or more at SonyStyle.com. That's the best Sony Visa deal we've seen since June. The credit will appear on your statement within 12 weeks of the required purchases.
A best bet is to purchase the new slimmer, lighter Sony Playstation 3 120GB Console for $299.99. (It's the second system down on that page.) After the Sony card credit, it falls to $199.99. With free shipping, it's tied as the lowest total price we've seen for this system. Sales tax is added where applicable. The new model PS3 features built-in 802.11g wireless, Bluetooth, HDMI out, and, of course, a Blu-ray player."
Hope you all can use this. I'd love to get one for $200, but I don't see myself playing very many games anymore not on the PC, and the new PS3s are not PS2 backward compatible (deal killer for me).
I used the Sony Credit Card deal last year with the WalMart deal to get my MGS4 bundle and it worked GREAT! Great post OP!!

It's great that people want to post deals they find on fatwallet. Then there are those people that just complain about everything. True it's not a hundred dollar coupon code or anything but there are plenty of people that will now benefit from this post. So stop being so harsh on the Op's. Good job OP! Green for you

He was not being harsh he was just being honest, the title is very misleading. I am happy that people post deals on FW too, I just wish they would post them more accurately.
It's in the OP's post that there's a credit card sign-up, and honestly, if someone thinks there isn't some type of catch for a $200 PS3, then they're being unrealistic. Either way, the OP did a good job describing the deal. Excellent opportunity for someone looking for a PS3 and not minding a credit card sign up.

What part of "Title is Misleading" dont you understand? Also, who exactly is questioning that plenty of people will or will not benefit?
just thought I'd throw this previous post in... if you're signing up for the credit card... use this link.... previous post

Don't forget that one may not have to purchase goods to get your spending benefits on cards such as these. If you're going to college and paying cash or getting reimbursed, pay for it with the card then pay the card right off, and meet your $3k spender line quick.
Bills such as your insurance, communications, etc, can often take most Visa & MasterCards, then pay the card right off with the check you were going to send directly in for the bill.
Lemonader said: In for the Slim. Got the 4 year service plan this time, my previous 80gig PS3 broke down after less than 2 years.
If you had bought your original 80gb PS3 with a decent credit card of some kind, you would have gotten a 2nd year of warranty coverage for free. FYI, the Sony Card has this benefit and they call it "Warranty Manager Service" (its offered thru Visa). Most AMEX cards come with it, but not all MC and Visa cards. If its not too late, call your credit card issuer and see if you are eligible.

The Sony CC offer seals this for me. I'm trying to pitch it to the wife as a blu ray player. We were looking for a different CC anyway after some less than desirable experiences with the "support" with our Chase rewards card. Thanks for re-linking the older post attgig!

That's awesome. I just booted Chase as well because they thought it was smarter to not reverse a late fee and lose a good customer versus reverse it and keep me. They stated "based on the current economy" crap. So, based on the current economy, it's better to charge $40 and lose my business then having me stay on as a customer. I'm not sure where the logic is in that. It's not like I was a chronic offender...
Well, I cashed out my rewards, canceled that card, applied for another one of the Chase cards for a $50 sign on bonus and will promptly cancel that as soon as I get my $50. Essentially, they paid me $10 to leave. Now it looks like Sony will be my new card!!
Ok, well I'm dumb. This is a Chase card too. Well, they can keep me and pay me another $300 before I leave!

If you don't care for the slim, you can opt for the fat PS3 80GB system for $299 and they are including a free Dualshock 3 PS3 controller. The offer is also available on the PS3 160GB system that includes Uncharted. The controller retails for roughly $50.

I went into the Sony Style Store on 08/24 after getting my card in the mail. They were giving two free games (a good selection ... each valued at $60) with the purchase of the 80gb or 160gb system. Needless to say, I sold both games. The $100 credit showed up on my account on 09/01. I used the card to pay for my tuition, books, etc. Making my way to the 3k mark.
There is going to be a hit on your credit score for: 1. Applying for new credit card. (This will last on your credit for two years) 2. Taking on new debt and new credit line. (will factor in debt to credit ratio and overall risk) 3. Closing account may also hit the credit score (no one knows how but some say if customer closes, does not affect but it may).
Other things to consider: this is a credit on your statement and not cash since you likely have to pay the balance prior to the credit appearing.
Overall you may save $60-80 (compared to other offers such as Bing Cash Back etc), you have to consider if this is worth it. IF you don't plan on buying a new house, car, or refinance etc, in the next 2-3 years, you may not have to worry about your credit score.
just like in every other ps3/360 thread, can we for once have a deal thread without the fanboy arguments?
"360 RULEZ LIKE 0MG NATAL WILL PWNZ JOO!!!"
"PS3 HAZ BLU-RAY AND FREE ONLINE SCREW M$!!!!!"
that's what you sound like when you make fanboy arguments, this isn't the place for it, just leave this deal alone if you aren't interested in it, no need for stupid crap that no one here likes to see
anyway, good deal OP, did this for my PS3 last year
I think it's funny, I just followed the link to dealnews and it had a Dave Ramsey book over in "You might also be interested in...". A little ironic considering this deal requires applying for a new credit card. He's the cut up your credit cards guy
I convinced a 360 fan (note not fanboy, because there is no convincing a fanboy) to get a PS3 after this deal. Free PS3 for spending money he was already spending (since any purchases count for the $3000 required spend to get the extra $200 credit on top of the initial $100 credit for purchase). The way I see it, some of the CC deals that give you 25k bonus miles are worth about the same ($300) and there have been better deals out there that give you $500+ worth of free stuff (or if you get 0% APR or 0% BT, it can REALLY add up). However, a $300 easy bonus for a credit card is still pretty good -- if you were going to get the PS3 anyway and are not using it to overextend yourself on credit, and if the small (very small) hit on your score temporarily doesn't matter (ie buying a house, etc, soon)

That is why paying off the balance is key and really what any responsible person should do with their credit cards. It can actually improve your score to get a new credit card. One of the things that the credit score looks at is available lines of credit vs. outstanding balances on those lines. Opening up another credit card shows that you are considered to be responsible enough maintain that credit and it looks good on your credit score.
Like an earlier post displays you can actually get the system free using the card. If you use the card to buy groceries, pay bills, fill up with gas, and other things you would normally pay out of your checking account, just use the cash you would have spent on those items to pay off the card. Just using the card to pay for necessities for our family of five I could reach the $300 credits in a couple months.
But it is good warning for those who are a little less responsible.

(total 3300) I did this deal earlier in the year with the Playstation card. Another benefit of doing this is that you will earn a bunch of Sony Rewards points. Make sure you register your card on the Sony Rewards site and get credit for the bonus points for buying Sony products. After going through my required $3300 spending in 6 months, I had enough points to get a free controller. Remember that you can buy a Sony product anywhere (i.e. Amazon.com) and use your Rewards points as a credit on your statement.
At the time I did the deal, I was able to get the 80GB PS3 for $40 along with a free extra controller using the rewards points. It is an even better deal now with the 120GB model for free.

I'm totally doing this as soon as my mortgage refinance is finalized. I'll just stop using my Chase Freedom and Discover Gas card for 6 months and use the Sony card for gas, groceries, and restaurants (the best I could get with Chase Freedom for spending $3000 would be only $90, so this is clearly a better deal) then I'll promptly switch back and most likely never use this card again. It'll be easier to convince my wife when I tell her it's free (ACB). Tough decision is whether to go with the 80GB Fat and get a free controller or to try the new slim with 40 more gibbles. I can kind of like the look of the fat one a little better.

Signed up and got card but had trouble purchasing through site so called and talked to sales rep. He informed me the $100 does not apply to the slim only the 80gb older model.

Does anyoine know if you are auto enrolled in the Sony rewards site by signing up for the Sony card or if I need to call the customer support #? I signed up for the card, got instantly approved and was given a card number with a temporary security ID. I was told I could start using the card immediately but wanted to make sure I get all the reward points possible when I buy the PS3
The sales rep is wrong. The T&C for the offer says $100 applies off ANY purchase of $299 or more from SonyStyle.com, which includes the PS3 (and probably would include multiple items as long as ordered at once and over $299 total).
