4 garmins here-- no free updates-- one I just registered today for the first time but it's a year old 760-- thanks garmin-- I've not qualified for a free update on any of these garmins over the years---
it says "update available" and looks like i'll be able to download for free. i have the software and GPS at home, so i didn't follow through, but it looked like it was going to work.

UPDATE: It wasn't free though! Bummer!
When you click on UPDATE, does it update the firmware or does it install 2010 MAPS? I see the update button, I will try it when I get home from vacation.

I think it becomes a safety issue if your maps are really old and hence hazardous. The Government should mandate free update for GPS units every 4 years.
I already used my free Upgrade in April and don't need another one yet. I think they keep track. Hope they have something like this couple of years in the future.
No good for me either. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Garmin offers this to new owner who registered their unit after purchase within 60 days will get a one time map update. If you had your garmin for more than 60 days, you are out of luck.

this makes me think that the 1st statement above is not the case
Noluck for me. I already used the free update on my nuvi350 2 years ago. It says 'update available' and when i clicked on it. It provides the updates(nuvi lifetime and onetime updates) as 'Add to Cart' ....which is 69.99 and 119.99.
thanks!c3688t said: Thanks OP, got the download started on my 3 year old Street Pilot 2820.... never updated maps since I bought it. Needed this "reminder"
Can both of you please let us know: 1. How long you have owned your unit? 2. Did you register it when you bought it or just now?
