AT&T/Cingular Option GT Ultra Express Card 7.2 Mbps Unlocked Works With Apple & Microsoft High Speed Wireless Laptop Internet Modem World Wide 3G Network Card

LINK

thanks

I apologize in advance for not knowing a whole lot about these devices.

How would I purchase service for this card? Would I be able to simply use the SIM card from my iPhone 3GS? Thanks everyone.

I'd like to know this too. Can I just pop-in my iPhone 3G sim card in there and use it?

iPhone SIMs won't work in this card (I've tried this) because of different provisioning. However you can get a GoPhone prepaid SIM and buy the "MediaNet" feature package ($20 for 100Mb) to get the 3G service.

The card will work with non-AT&T networks (it works with the $5.99 t-zones plan) but only at EDGE speeds.

Once you get this card, go here to download the generic Windows or Mac software for it.

Apparently, users in Another Deal site http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=19619119&postcount=57 have posted that they were able to get it to work. APN needs to be changed to wap.cingular

That APN is needed to use the GoPhone service. I tested this card about four months ago with an iPhone-provisioned SIM using both APNs (wap.cingular & isp.cingular) and neither would connect.

Maybe it's regional (we're in the Seattle area) or maybe AT&T has changed its provisioning and that could explain why others say it works.

does this work with ubuntu?

what is edge speed

What you need is to change the Dialed Number string to *99***1#
good luck

The price is really low but heads-up guys about this data card, I used to own it and I got rid of it:

It works well in a place like NYC where coverage is dense. However I used it in South East Asia and it performed really poorly when trying to pick up and lock on a signal on EDGE.

It's got a port for an external antenna. I didn't have one but it may help (but you have to purchase it and carry it around with you).

Customer service from Option was basically helpless and what's more, they didn't even care.

I don't think I'll look at Option products again.

To use this, I assume at the very least you need to already be a AT&T Wireless data subscriber. Just being an AT&T Broad subscriber at home won't be enough. Am I correct?

good imput, but seriously, how many people are going to not get this because it didnt work well in asia?

im debating whether or not to get this as a back up for the card we have now, supplied by att.

You are right: the proportion of buyers of this thing who travel will be small and who will travel and use it abroad is even smaller.

On a related note, I use this with my non-iphone's SIM card w/ $15/mo unlimited data plan. Like 1lossir, it would not work using the AT&T Communication Mgr software because it was hard-coded to isp.cingular. Using the software from the link provided by 1lossir in an earlier post (GlobeTrotter??) and setting provider to wap.cingular worked perfectly, at both Edge and 3G when available. Was kinda of nerdy-cool driving on the interstate (well, riding along as a passenger at that time) and surfing FW.

junk.

so no deal to use with your current ATT Wireless unlimited data plan???

Bummer...

fzanetti said: so no deal to use with your current ATT Wireless unlimited data plan?Yes, you can use this with your current AT&T unlimited data plan. You use your current SIM card in this adapter, install the software 1lossir posted a link to, and set the provider to wap.cingular.

With Windows Mobile phones you can also hook the phone via USB to your computer and run Internet Connection Sharing on the phone to accomplish the same thing, and also make/receive phones calls at the same time.

Since this card is unlocked, will this work with T-Mobile's data plans or any other cell provider's data plans?

Anyone have their shipped yet? Mine says "waiting for pickup" for almost a week now. My PayPal has NOT been charged.
