9/23 Update - the terms for the coupon code HALFTIME have been changed to exclude this model. Combined with the price increase to $999, and this deal is dead. Sorry to anyone who wasn't able to get in on this in time.
Current status - price has gone up to $999 in cart, $899 when the coupon is applied. May not be a great deal at this point unless you use a Sears card and get the other 10% rebate.
Coupon is supposed to be good until 9/26, if you are still interested in this deal, you might want to wait and see if the price dips back down.
I have the 42" version of this plasma and I love it. 1080p, great reviews.

9/23/09: Coupon code no longer valid for this model, price seems to be stuck at $999, and the Bing CashBack is no longer 8%. Sorry, but this deal is dead!
9/22/09: Price has gone up $100 to $999. Coupon code is valid until 9/26, so wait to see if the price dips back down.
9/21/09: bing.com/CashBack/go?c=299047%u03BC=www.Sears.com&mscbg=1 for 8% Bing CashBack (may NOT be valid when using the 10% coupon code, but so far people are getting normal Bing emails for this deal).
9/20/09: Coupon TOUCHDOWN expired yesterday --- you now need to use HALFTIME for 10% Off on Sony or Panasonic TVs
Calibrating/Setting up the P50S1: (Disclaimer: Use the below at your own risk - you can brick the TV if you change stuff that you don't know in the service menu)
First start with the break-in settings as indicated in this post -- and break-in your TV (if you believe in break-in and stuff).
Then you will have to access the service menu as explained by AVS forum users Lem22 and mistah-g -- in order to look at the number of hours in the plasma and to change the RGB Drives/Cuts in the Service menu as per the sadmaker's ISF calibrated setting (for the P50S1) - Link
Finally use DVE/Avia to further calibrate the TV for your home/room.
For those who care about power consumption this set pulls about 500 watts running, compared to a 42 LCD that I have pulling 130 watts.

For those serious about this I see 200$ mfr rebate for combined Panasonic Blueray player purchase in Microcenter ad, but dont have time to search now. For reference 999$ at Amazon.

Bingo, plus the manufacturing-to-demand was a bit off the past year due to the economy...supply and demand at work where the demand forcast was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off.
Crazy Deal, I've been looking in to the G10, but at this price I'm VERY tempted. According to AVS and lots of other sites this is a very good TV. I thought it would be Black Friday when we saw these kind of prices on a 50" 1080p quality display.
Bing's terms and conditions exclude coupon codes. You can try Bing, but don't be surprised if you don't get it. The FW Cash Back is valid with this coupon code as it is listed on the FW SearsCash Back page.

While I have never been denied any MS CB ... I have to agree with this assessment. CB can be hit-or-miss and if they deny your CB it can be near impossible to change their minds.
Now that the price of quality displays has sunk below $1,000 I have to decide whether to go plasma or LCD ...
With delivery and tax, this deal is colder than USAppliance. I just ordered this tv with the free BD60 Blu-ray player, $1,099 shipped, no tax, less $54.95 Bing CB.
Not a bad deal if you pick up and can get the additional 10% from the Searscard rebate.

I agree it is not so hot if you pay $65 for shipping. But personally (although I have purchased my last 3 large flat screens off the Internet and had them shipped) I'd have preferred to pick them up from a local store if the price had been comparable or better like it is in this case.
My last 2 sets came with the shock sensor indicating they had been mishandled during shipping. Unless there is visible damage, you are just supposed to notate that on the bill of lading, but still accept the TV. Fortunately the TV's turned out to work fine, but I can't imagine the hassle and expense of having to ship one of these back if it arrived looking ok but still DOA or if failed after a week or so.
For big ticket items, I think there is real value in dealing with a B&M store. And although I work from home and can easily stick around for a 4+ hour delivery window, that isn't the case for everyone.

No, unless the manufacturers have let some information slip out. New models are unveiled yearly at the electronics show in Las Vegas sometime in the middle of January. These new models hit the sales floor sometime in February or early March. This explains the sales that you see in late winter and early spring.
The current low prices may just be due to overstocking and cheaper technology.

those of you shipping it - its cheapers at Vann's at 999.97 and same 2% CashBack. free shipping & you get a wall mount. around $1k seems to be the new price for the 50s1.

The FW Cash Back is valid with this coupon code as it is listed on the FW SearsCash Back page. It does not hurt to try. If you do not see CB confimation after 2-3 days, just e-mail Bing. Bing is still trying badly to attract users, so very good chance they will credit the CB.
