Ugh, single core Sempron? No thanks... once upon a time we got dual core OEM Athlon's (BE-2400) for $25... I miss those days.

"Sempron" should be in the title.

This CPU *could* be unlocked to dual-core, but I'm not sure if this motherboard would allow for that.

I can report favorable results using the same model of motherboard with an X2-4200+ CPU since about 1 year ago from a past $79 Fry's bundle, no major ongoing problems under LINUX that I recall. It does feel rather slow compared to some higher end systems I've used, though, but for the price I'm not complaining.

Also another relative has been using the same model motherboard with Vista for a year or so and that has been working well AFAIK.

The limit of two physical RAM slots for supporting a 2x2GB = 4GB total practical maximum feels kind of restrictive in these days of cheap DDR2 RAM, though for a low end system loading it up with 4GB will give usable if occasionally constrained results under heavy work loads.

I don't recall that it has very many motherboard internal drive ports so double-check the motherboard manual if you're planning to load up a lot of HDDs and an internal DVD and so on to make sure all your intended parts will work/fit.

This combo seems better to me

The MB has ACC, so you may unlock the CPU to get a Athlon X2 235.

Of course, unlocking is always YMMV
