Sorry, that was not me, last Target report was for $88. I post the same info on the other competing web side. This is a new deal. Just found out yesterday.

I'm guessing this will too.We don't have the ability to merge threads, and the only other threads I could find about this drive list it at a slightly higher price still.

That's called spamming. As the OP has already pointed out, that wasn't their post. What the OP has done here is called highlighting a good deal for people who don't know about or don't want to dig through a 2800 post thread to find the one thing they are interested in.
Additionally, posting in a thread to criticize another member without adding anything useful to the discussion is called flaming and threadcrapping
I grabbed 5 for $59.99. They had about 40 when I first saw them, but I balked at first That's all that was left the next day.

so is this the "portable" 2.5" or the regualr 3.5" that has been on clearance for a while. I haven't seen the "portable" external drive at targets around here that is why I ask

My local Target sold out of these early last month. They were updating prices on electronics clearance here yesterday. Nothing but a ton of Wii games on first markdown.

thanks
In the pic, looks like the larger one. "Passport" is the smaller, 2.5" line.

No one makes 2.5" drives that big. Currently the largest 2.5" drives made are 500gb. If no one makes the actual hard drives that big, you arent going to find a 2.5" portable external that big.

Actually there's this 750GB 2.5" drive that's been out for a few months, but not many people are buying it because it's slightly thicker than other 2.5" drives. There is a "portable" external version of it as well.
Good price. I got the same price at BB a few weeks back. The prices of 1TB are definitely coming down and there should be same or even better deals come Black Friday.
spinn said: can these be removed from their external case easily? By doing so, does that void the warranty? is it sata or pata?I opened my 750GB by just prying all around the perimeter with my fingers for five minutes. Carlton Bale shows you how, here.. Notice that presses in some of the narrow rubber feet on the bottom to release some snap tabs. Instructables also has directions, but they're for a slightly different MyBook case that's held together with a hidden screw.
Opening the case doesn't violate the warranty if you do it right and if there's no sticker telling you not to.
I'm sure the drive inside is SATA because I think PATA topped out at around 500GB.

Wow, thanks! I used another one and it wasn't working for me. This one shows some in stock across town. Hope it's accurate.
It appears that this checker is really geared towards smart phones use and supported by Target themselves, since it is using the dpci value instead of the Amazon number. Maybe I'll place a wrapper around this and update my old chekcer. Bottom line, nice.
vize said: OP please take "portable" off from the title. It is misleading. This is a 3.5" drive.Yes, OP, please warn us that this is a drive that weighs far too much for some of us to lift and is meant to be bolted permanently to the floor.
Grabbed the last one at my local Target (Chula Vista Broadway [San Diego County]) @ $59.99 last night. They had about 40+ of them overflowing on shelf in the computer aisle AND clearance endcap about 2 weeks ago at 15% off.
I hate this Target. All the "TJ" people grab up the clearances at early stages and resell them in Mexico (I have seen Target electronics with my own eyes in mom n' pop shops down there).

Not accurate. The stores that showed in stock didn't even have drives bigger than 500gb. Orange county (Socal) Targets really suck when it comes to electronics.

lol...That's not quite what I meant. Just wanted to point out that there was no mention in the OP of this being a 3.5" drive, and portable may make some believe that this is a 2.5" form factor. I do agree that this drive is portable as long as there is a power outlet nearby.

Anyone finding any actually in stock when it indicates "limited availability?" I don't really feel like burning up the gas or time to go to a not-too-close store if "limited availability" generally means it was in stock over the weekend but now is out of stock. Maybe I should call .... just kidding. Thanks
